The chain reaction accident involved three cars and two semi trucks.
TUKWILA, Wash. - Police are searching for two men who raced along Interstate 5 at up to 100 mph from Tukwila to Tacoma, causing a chain reaction accident involving three cars and two semi trucks.
Police say the men in a black truck were racing with a red sports car. Andy Marcelynos saw the cars coming in his rear view mirror.
"I was doing probably 65, and they came up on me like I was standing still," said Marcelynos.
The pickup crashed into an SUV, causing a chain reaction accident involving three cars and two semi trucks.
"Here we've got two people racing. The roadways are wet. They're traveling in excess of 100 miles an hour for over 17 miles," said Trooper Johnny Alexander.
The damaged cars were towed to Bill's Towing in Tacoma. A Ford F-150 Harley Davidson pickup was one of the vehicles racing on I-5. Found inside was a case of beer and some empties.
Also in the lot are two smashed Volkswagons and a white Ford Expedition belonging to the innocent victims.
In all, eight cars were hit, but the street racers got away. The red sports car escaped damage and sped away. The occupants of the speeding truck took off on foot.
"Hopefully we'll catch the pickup and the driver in the 350Z," said Alexander.
Two victims were taken to Tacoma General Hospital with minor injuries.
The drivers could face serious charges of reckless driving, felony hit and run and vehicular assault.
