Verify Speaker Sizes!

:
2002 P5, 1978 F250
I know this has been asked tons of times before, because i searched and found tons of diff. answers...

On the computers at best buy it says the speakers for a 2002 P5 are 6" and 6" x 9"..

I have a really good hookup on some pioneers at that size, but I need to verify those sizes before I spend the money. Can someone who has changed out the speakers tell me if these are correct or will at least fit without modification to the car?

and BOTH of those are wrong...

the fronts are 5 X 7.....however 6 X 8's will fit, typically their frames are the same size.

the rears in the doors are 6 1/2

already i got 2 different answers.... this is a bit frustrating...

well cruchfields is NOT the know all of audio..

so....if you don't want to trust all the information you got in your searches....what makes you think you are going to get any different information from this post?

MY suggestion....go and take off one of each of your door panels and measure the speakers....

and the diameter of the speakers is one thing....the DEPTH is another...our doors are not that deep...and thus limits the speaker selection you have for upgrading....you may want to remove each of those speakers and measure them for depth before you go and spend any money on any upgrades.

I know it can be frustrating but Nuke is right.

The fronts are 5x7 and 6x8 will fit but watch the mounting brackets and hole positions of the speakers you buy. You might need to fabricate some type of bracket to make it work.

Also, in agreement, the doors are not real deep for the depth of the speaker. Thought of doing spacers when I get around to replacing the speakers but then there is not a lot of top clearance with spacers before you start hitting the door panel.

6.5 in the rear. Depth (see above)

Sir Nuke is Right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BELIEVE HIM!! damn it! :D

FRONT: 5x7/6x8 (same size)
REAR: 6

i have changed all my speakers in the car and car verify this, i have pictures of both new and old speakers

thanks

Thanks guys.. I finally got off my lasy ass and took my doors apart to measure the speakers... sir nuke's right... 5x7 in the front and 6.5 in the back..

While I was at it I measured the clearance of how deep the speakers can go. If your interested its 4 1/4" in the front and 3 1/2" in the back. Thats the maximum, leaving about 1/2" space after the magnet... hope that can help someone....

The morral of the story..... Sir Nuke, OurP5, and pr5owner are wise P5 masters.... ;)

well....then, if you really believe that last statement....you may want to remove the door panels and take ONE more set of measurements BEFORE you go and spend any money....

you took those measurements with the windows CLOSED didn't you? well the window will HIT the speakers if they are in too deep....so what you will want to do is take the measurement with the window down......I wish I had done that already so I could save you the trouble...but I havn't....all I know is that they will hit if you put the speakers in that deep.

Sorry, should have mentioned that before too. That what I meaning with the spacers mentioned above.

The window track is kind of like a pair of scissors in case you didn't know. As the window goes down the bottom speads and pretty much fills in the the inner part of the door.

Good luck and I hope all works out.

P.s.

I can only speak for myself. I am not that wise when it comes to this car at all. I am learning as I go though. Audio has always been the only modofication I have done to a car so wo this is my "forte" I guess you could say. :D

I guess I will have to take the doors apart again.. I didnt realize the windows would go down that far, but i guess it makes sence now... I might need to invest in some more of those clips that keep the door panels on.. I might need some after all the wear i'm giving them.

The tweeters are 3/4 inch & quite cheesy IMHO. 1" tweets (Boston Acoustic) will fit with only a minor mod.

Gotta bring this back up...Someone give us the actual clearance (so we can use the windows) of our speakers front and rear.
Thanks!!!

Not sure if this is 100% correct but the fronts will take a speaker ALMOST 3 inches deep, depending on if you use a top mount or bottom mount configuration.

With same disaclaimer as above, the rears should take any speaker up to 2 inches without any clearance issues.

Good Luck

the 5X7 is a mazda only speaker.. it actually says for mazda on it. I bought pioneer 3way 5x7s and the sound great and pioneer 3way 6.5 in the back.. it sounds great.. make sure you put some kind of dampining material in there tho or else u will get a little bit of rattle. hope that helps
