Hey,
just wondering if there was a site or something that had all the specs of the 6? I am referitng to like tb size, size of cat to y pipe, y pipe to mufflers, and is the size of the 6s tb bigger than the 6i for examples. I looked and couldn't find this info anywhere...

Th only thing that I know is that the exuast piping is bout 2" on the 6s. I took off my mufflers and straight piped to 2 1/4" tips. But thats about the extent of what I know.

2"(shocked) I had 2.25(2 1/4) on my 2.0 neon and it put out 132 horses! I can't even imagine how much of a gain you got on a 3.0! Guess I have more work to do than i thought (headshake . so far the filter partial airbox mod and TB grounding showed an improvement from stock (A$$ Dyno). also has anyone ran an oil/tranny cooler to the line entering the throttle body?

Running an oil cooler to the throttle body? Sounds like a waste of cash to me. Just do a cold air intake. The cold air from the fender is enough, and if yo ureally want to pep it up, if you don't have the fog lights, just remove the cover where the light would go and you get super air!!! But the car will hesitate from the way the air flows into the opening causing it to jerk at mid throttle but as long as you punch it, its all good (headbang)

I already had the cooler from previous plans with my other car....I'll just use it on the tranny since that was it's real purpose(encourage I'm planing on getting a cai as well in the future. and are you refering to the accessory fogs in lower grille that I don't have either? My other plan was to remove the resonator and supstitute it with a piece of mandrel bent pipe aimed foreward like my last car till I get the CAI.

Yes I was reffering to the accessory foglight space in the front bumper. And whats this madrel bent pipe from the resonator forward?

The pipe is just a short 45 degree bent piece replacing the resonator in fender...and also adding a lilttle sound IIRC 2/10 of what a cai would make. The resonator is designed for those who want a really super quiet car. Most cars the resonator pulls horses and I'm only gonna assume the same for the 6. I seen alot of people cut the diamonds out of that foglight delete plate. How hard was that cause I'd like to have cool air flowing into that section like you discribed above.

*EDIT*
Did my homework at the mazda6tech site (Tango for the link) and got this info:

Whats wrong with the stock intake system? Well nothing really, it does its job perfectly. Its a great sound buffer (you can hardly hear the v6 in the 6s), and it restricts power until VVT, allowing for decent stock mileage while just puttin around town. However when the VAD (flapper which controls variable air intake) is closed, the intake is HEAVILY restricted and is only flowing around 30-40% its max capable flow. This combined with soundproofing devices are sucking valuable power from the car.
Yep the resonator is definately comming out next break and I'm in the process of either saving up for an injen 2nd ver. or fabricating my own

Awesome - fab your own intake! Stretch (one of the prolific local contributors of tech articles and strong opinions to the 6tech site) fabricated hi, and it sounds S-W-E-E-T! And gave him a quicker 0-60 by 0.2 seconds!

And if you DO get an Injen, there isn't gonna be a second version. There was talk of a 2nd version for the 6s because of the lean-bank CELs on the 6s, but they (Injen) nixed it, as their opinion (and that of other 6 experts) is that CEL is ignore-able ;)

The 6i CAI is available - get it from ptuning.com with the mazda6club discount of 5% - that's what I'm doing this summer.

Yeah my last CAI was $59 in parts for my other car and it worked flawless to the $200 and up systems. I'm still waiting for the registration notice for the mazda6club....for around a month now. I kinda figured that out once they came back and said that mazda had a PCM upgrade solely for this issue and they wash their hands of it. I plan on doing little mods (Not Running Boost) cause the 6 isn't gona be my beater. I'm gonna get a 89 caravan (2.5L MHI TE04H) or an 87 conquest(2.6L MHI TD05) for that(laugh)

Wow - I just noticed - your car sounds like a clone of mine (except for the mods - so far I only have the CG-Lock and syn oil, if those count as mods!) :) You've got to come hang out with us at the many meets we have - listed on 6club forums in the Mid Atlantic section.

I consider inflating the tires and adding 89 and up octane as mods....that don't need to be listed eack and every single time done. I'll see into that...wish I ran my other car to see where it was (Or wasn't) before trading it in.

Ummm - you NEED to read the octane discussions online, and on M6Tech - the consensus is that not only is higher octane no better for our engine, it may actually be WORSE! Just like every other car out on the planet that does not have octane-based timing retardation built in. Or something.

Gist: Use ONLY 87 octane :)

I'm actually running the highest octane possible, but I'm near Denver so the altitude and lack of air don't help. I'm also running the AEM cai right now too. The people at Injen and the company I tried to order through, kept giving me the run around. So I bit my lip and bought the AEM. It's alot cheaper too, not as good looking, but it gets the job done.

I had a $59 dollar intake...I'm into functinal before physical. I plan on doing a lil bit at a time vs poring whatever was left in my account before the next check is deposited like I previously did. I like my 4cyl alot even with the ATX it's attached to. Just wanted some spects and info so I know what I'm buying is not less than or equal to stock. So far the Badge "Mazda 6" alone means nobody wants to run you even after saying it's only a 4 cyl.
(laugh)

The AEM is just as functional as any other. I talked to the guy at AEM who designed it and he gave me alot of good info. Part of the reason it uses the stock tubing is to compensate for engine flex. Would you want your brackets breaking from jumping on your throttle all the time? Also the performance gains are not that different. The Injen only out performed the AEM by 1 or 2 HP. Now unless you're really anal about HP I dont really think it should matter. But its your choice. Plus the AEM was $180 whereas the Injen was $225.

Umm, no - BIG HP difference. And they both cause the CEL anyway (talking 6s here).

Yeah, for the 6i, any CAI or any short ram has about the same-ish improvement, except K&N which is just weak.

as for flexing...whenever motor mount inserts or stiffer replacement mounts are available both the i and s models will *Noticebly Benefeit* in launches and less engine flex......at the expence of the vibrations which I could get use to
