Variable Tumble Control Solenoid?

My car is throwing a code and this is what Autozone said it was when I took it to them:
Variable Tumble Control Solenoid stuck closed.
What is this? How might I go about fixing it? I'm planning on taking a road trip tomorrow, should I be alright if I don't get it fixed first?

Thanks.

I don't know much about this but it's called VTCS (Variable Tumble Control Solenoid). Some of the guys here remove this because it restricts air flow to the engine. Sorry I can't help you with weather or not it's ok for the road trip though. I'm guessing since it's stuck closed all it will do is rob you of some power. Just a guess though really.(dunno)

It's right on top of the intake by the oil dipstick. Fiddle with it & see if you can unstick it for the time being. You could probably unstick it & plug the vacum line going to it so it won't even actuate & stick again until you can do something else more permanent about it like remove VTCS altogether or get a new one. Not thinking it'd be too good to drive around with it stuck closed. If you saw how much of the runner it blocks being closed you'd see how you wouldn't really wanna drive with it like that on a trip.

VTCS is a waste of time. Get a good solenoid to replace the bad one to make the light go away. Then remove the rest of the system.

How do you fix this problem? Is it common in Protege 5's, because I was told it was and was also told by some s*** dealer mechanic to replace the intake manifold.

Best fix is to remove and port your intake and get your ECU re-flashed to MP3 (no VTCS=no CEL) (assuming you are not a 16 yr old girl with an automatic ;) and have a manny tranny )

Or - just just get the MP3 ECU and leave the non-functioning VTCS alone (assuming it is stuck open and not closed -which would cause performance problems).

In any case - no you would not 'have' to remove the IM to replace the VTCS solenoid. It is external and very easy to swap - do it yourself. Really. That easy.

I found a vtc at the junkyard from a 626 I think.Put it in and no more problem's might wanna try that think I paid like 2 buck's.Come to think of it I think I have two more I bought that same day let me know if you need them.
