variable dash light intensity

Am I just an idiot - or is there some way to change the brightness of the dash/HUD lights?
Most cars have a knob below the wheel on the left or right side.
Our M5 has a bunch of blanks but nothing I can find.

The dash lights get really dim when the headlights are turned on, I want to turnthem up!

There is a button on the instrument cluster that is slightly larger than the trip odometer reset button. Twist it and you will be able to adjust the lights. In my opinion, this is how Mazda went cheap when doing the backlighting for the cluster.

I was already in "here" reading about other stuff and thought about this.
it was less effort to just ask, than actually put on my shoes and go outside and dig through the manual.

It's a common question, so no offense intended. I had trouble figuring out why the navi unit stayed on day mode until I figured out how it tied into that dash light switch.
