there's a vid floating around of an 8 second 1/4 mile drag miata..

I couldn't believe it.
 
It looks like so much fun. I think the hood would be required for clearance. I don't see how it could be avoided with a motor that big.
 
406 is a bored, stroked small block. Essentially the same overall external dimensions as a Ford 302. They must have it carburated rather than deal with swapping the ecu and harness for a FI system. Only good reason I can think of for that hood.
 
to bad he had to have a 3 yr old film it! bad to the bone but car is ugly with that stupid hood!
