Using the "wrong" K&N air filter

I have a K&N that I used on my Camaro. It looks longer and possibly thinner than the one people have said to use here. The opening is also too big to fit directly onto where the stock air box connects. What I am wondering is would performance suffer if I were to add some piping to connect this filter instead of buying the other one?

Honestly, is it worth the extra effort of adding piping?? I bought my filter for $30. You can probably even get one at your local Pep Boys or Kragen...What would it look like with the extra piping??

Thats what I'm wondering. If I decided to try and place the filter somewhere to get cooler air (as in some pictures I have seen) then I would need piping anyway. If not, then it definitely would be easier just to buy a new one. It just seems like a waste when I have the other one sitting there, so I thought if I could use it without too much difficulty I would. But if it ended up being a pain in the ass then I would just buy the other filter.

Well, there is a nice opening under the Washer fluid resevoir(sp?) where the intake is located. If you could find a piece of pie that you could extend from the Mass Airflow Sensor out and down through that hole, I bet you would feel a pretty good gain. The only problem would be finding someway to mount the resevoir safely.

2K3 - I probably wouldn't recomend using pie. It could result in the attraction of ants and rodents under your hood creating an entirely different problem. j/k2k3

IMO I would just buy the proper Cone Filter. Thirty bucks for the right part is probably worth it.
