Using Alpine SPR-17S Component Speakers - 08.5 MS3 w/ Bose

Looking to install Alpine SPR-17C Component speakers in my 08.5 Mazdaspeed 3 w/ Bose system already installed. Anyone know if these speakers are going to be too deep for the doors (mounting depth is 2 5/16 according to websites). I would also replace the stock tweeters with the Alpine tweeters. I'm a bit concerned about the Alpine crossover; doesn't the Bose amp already filter the signal going to the door woofer and tweeters?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I cant comment on the x-over with the bose system, but I can tell you the tweeter install is not just plug&play. I had to purchase a set of blank sail panels to mount my infinity kappa tweeters in. I will have some pictures of the panels up tomorrow in this post. http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123692905

I am still working on cutting the hole for mounting, but I think I have a plan. As for the depth question I would check Crutchfield's website for your model of speaker to see if it fits.

leadfoot,
Im looking to upgrade on my M3 GT (not speed). Did you replace the amp in the Bose system? If not, did the new components sound much better?

It seems to me that you have received good results. Im really trying to avoid buying a new amp, at least right now. Kinda short on funds.

To the OP... I have two of those exact same component sets that I want to install. Let me know how you make out. I was wondering if they would fit but I somehow don't think so. Not without some modifications anyway. Keep us posted

I have SPX17 Pros, mounting depth 2-1/2" in my doors and they fit fine with the included 5x7 to 6.5 adapters.

The bose amp sends a dynamically-equalized signal to the speakers. There is no low-pass on the woofers but the tweets have an inline filter capacitor on them. You will need to use the Alpine crossover.

Eventually you will want to get a decent 3-channel (no rear fill) or 5-channel (rear fill) amp, and a sub, to bring your system to life. Running a real sub off the bose amp wasn't bad, actually.

I dont have a bose system, but I did not use an amp for my component system in my sport, just the stock hu. You have to go 2 turns farther for the same sound level, but it is a much better sounding system. Right now I only have the drivers side done, so I am able to use the balance from left to right to hear the difference. The stock speakers are a little boomy, and muddy. The infinity comps are clearer, but dont seem to have quite as much bass. I am installing a stealthbox with an 8" kicker sub, so I was looking for clearer sound from the comps, not bass anyways. Anyone looking to upgrade the speakers without an amp needs to look at the sensitivity level of the speakers, mine are at 93. The higher the level the louder they'll play without needing a lot of power. If loud is your thing you'll want an amp, so you have plenty of power to push them, and make them still sound good.

depth is no sweat, you can go like 3 an a half, its on the crutch site for exactness

use the alpine cross,

and get rid of the bose amp

even a couple hundred into a 4ch amp will be nite and day

stock wiring will be fine

meicalnissyen,

That's what I'm thinking; I'll remove the stock Bose subwoofer under the passenger seat and put a small 4 ch amp there. I'd like to swap out my stock radio, but I use the steering wheel controls allot and I really enjoy them!

you should be able to get an interface which will allow the steering wheel
controls to work with the aftermarket headunit.
