i have about 500 miles and i think that i have either gotten used to the boost or something is wrong....i dont feel the pull anymore at around 3500 rpm...it just revs high, like no turbo.....eh.....

what do you think? anything i can inspect myself?

at 500 miles you should be taking it easy and staying off boost.

ALSO, keep in mind that you won't boost if you're light on the throttle, which you SHOULD be @ 500 miles.

Yeah breakin sucks but it's worth it, hold out till 1200 miles or so. I'm sure it's hard, but it's better than driving nothing (like me)

nevermind.

Dex: I wouldn't baby it too much. I just didn't take mine above the 5000-5500 rev area before I got to 1,000 miles.

i have never been over 5000. hell ive never been over 4500.

question: does boost build up from each gear to the next? like boost in first, shift, boost holds, builds in second..?

or...boost in first...shift...boost all gone, rebuilds in second..?

why are you sighing? the car doesnt feel like it did the day i got it :(

If you haven't taken it past 4500 what do you mean by revs high? And to answer your question, you lose boost pressure between shifts, I'm pretty sure. Hence the use of a diverter valve or BOV.

my dealer said there is no break in period. and i read somewhere, manual or something to just take it easy for the first 1000km

I am at 600 miles and have gone to 5000 rpms a cple times, and 4500 several. havent gone past 5000 tho....

so i interpereted "taking it easy" as not going over 5000 rpms, and not going past 4000 on a regular basis.....

some ppl were told or were using a 400 mile break in.....who knows...

well seing as how ive been shifting at 3000, 4500 seems high to me. i dunno waht i mean. but i do feel the boost after taking it around the block for a quick spin.

I feel the same thing dexter. I not sure what it is. Some people talked about it on the Turbo Lag thread. Just seems like a hesitation and the boost isn't coming like it use too. It has never felt 100% like I thought it should. This is my first turbo car though so I am just riding it out. Will take it to dealer after 3000 miles and talk to tech about it.

One other thing I noticed is u can't just mash the pedal. It runs like s*** if i do. I have to walk the pedal down as the rpm's increase. Seems to boost better that way.

I have 1K miles on it. Hell I taken it to 7500+ rpm before, but not on long stretches. *shrug*

It is odd. I wish I knew someone else close who had one so I could drive it and compare.

If you would read your manual you would see that mazda recomends not "racing" the engine untill about 600 miles

step1: push the gas pedal all the way down (this is important)
step2: dump the clutch at about 3-4 k
step 3: shift as fast as you can at or a little past red line but dont hit rev limiter too long it will slow you down.
Repeat untill desired speed is aquired :)

please stretch it legs!!!! its not going to blow up...well maybe but its highly unlikely
most modern cars piston rings break in faster than a long time ago when you had to change the oil all the time and could dramaticly shorten the life of your engine if not broken in properly
and I garontee you that the grease monkey that pdi'ed your car gave it a proper flogging... so loosen up and enjoy your high performance racing machine!!! :)

the way a turbo makes boost is by exhaust the more fuel you engine burns the more exhaust the more exhaust the more boost a compressor can have some momentum but that is what a waste gate and bov are for as long as you are driving with out a boost gaudge its a seat of the pants feel and you ass doesnt have a good memory so dont worrie about it its all good

Hummmmm....... MSP turbo must be very soft because on my Turbo MP3 you REALY KNOW IT when your on the boost!!!!

One thing you have to know guys, you can go up to 5000 rpm without any boost. The boost is building when there's some LOAD on the engine. If you realy want to see the boost, go WOT (full throtle) up to 5000 or 6000 and you'll fell it. There's no need to rev it and dump the clutch. Only WOT over 4000 rpm and you'll feel it.
