Does anyone know if you can reprogram a used key fob? In other words, if the fob has been programmed with a CX-5, can it later be programmed to a different CX-5? Two employees at my dealership had different opinions - one said yes, the other no.
One would think if you can program a new key to work you can reprogram any smart key to work. This website indicates only the dealer can program the key though. You can call Mazda USA direct as well they should be able to answer the question.
it can be done. i bought a used key fob on ebay for $85 and took it to the dealership to program it. so far im told you cant do it on your own and only some locksmiths and the dealerships [of course] can do it. make sure the fcc id matches up with the other key and make sure its an actual cx5 key [ or it looks exactly like your other one] no extra buttons. it cost me $121.97 with nyc tax to do it without cutting the insert key. the dealership wouldnt cut that key because they said it was aftermarket.
