US Mazda5 Changes for 2010

I see your point but I have driven my sisters three many times in wet weather and never had a problem with wheel spin. I just don't really think it's needed on a car like the 5 will it help yes, but I don't think it's needed.

It's helpful in Minnesota. (32 and freezing rain this morning)

I live in Canada and god knows how we get snow, freezing rain etc and i've never saw the need to have the traction control, just be gentle on the gaz pedal that's it. I prefer to control the car than the car control itself !!

+1

I can see where it would be helpful to some drivers but like I said it isn't NEEDED.

The 2010 Mazdas that don't have ESC standard are the 3, Miata, and RX-8.

OTOH my Sienna has ESC which works well in slushy/freezing weather. Once our sloped driveway was iced over and the van eerily alternated power between the front wheels, literally crawling an inch per second.

2010 Mazda5. New Liquid Silver Metallic Exterior and Black Piano Radio Faceplate

Some more pics found. Check out the DSC On/Off button next to the emergency parking lights switch.

I also found a Stormy Blue Mica, it looks too bubbly without the side markers nor the moldings IMO. Oh well, I'm so used to see them anyway...

Where I found them (credit due I guess :)):

[Byers Mazda, Columbus OH]

Agree about the lack of side moldings. I think it needs that as a character line to break up the big side panel.

Most importantly, are they still offering a manual transmission in the 5 for 2010?

dang your right, what happened to the side markers... garr... molding looks ok with or without and will make waxing easier.... but I dig the side markers.... just when they almost had it all good they skip something.

It needs the side molding to reduce the number of door dings - the metal is thinner than "normal" cars thus dents easier.

And yes, manual transmission is offered though still on the Sport model only (United States).

What doors are going to be hitting the car at the level the side molding was at?

If you want to reduce door dings park in BFE.

Saw a liquid silver metallic today parked close to my 06, awesome color and a nice dashboard "TCS Off" button, LOL

I can also confirm that without the moldings nor the side markers it looks like a whale, too bloated. But to each its own, no bashing intended :)

I'm so glad I nabbed the last '09 sport manual I found! the fender blinker is a nice detail, and the side trim has a nice integrated look to it. I don't need/want DSC stuff; never had it, don't know why I'd start now. my previous VUE didn't even have ABS, never locked up or skidded that car.
the mazda5 handles quite well IMO. I like the spec and hope to keep it for many years, at least 6-8, as long as the kids still fit in it!

We've been happy with our 2010 1wk into it.... the wheels we put on it help make up for the lack of moulding n side markers... though I do like the side markers. Something else I noticed tonight was the glove box light is gone, I'll have to look harder but there wasn't one on when I expected it... when did that change? Our 07 had one. I'll be doing a full 07 vs 10 review in a couple weeks... already got some good points locked in my head.

I have a 2006 and I'm sure I once saw light came on in the globe compartment.
but I don't see it now too.. I haven't looked into it yet.

The diagram below show where it is located... no idea which variation
of mazda5 this workshop manual is for:

I would disregard their technical write up on 'how to change the bulb'. lol

lol my glove box light works like once a month, if I open the glove box in a certain way -- firmly push down to full open, not too hard, not too soft.

I feel exactly the same. Removing the side turn signals and side trim made an ugly car even uglier. I also would pay extra to not have traction control or DSC as I want a "drivers car" not a mom mobile. If you want stability, "safety", and blandness just buy a Subaru, they are way easier to drive and greatly reduce the actual thought involved in driving. My wife is on her 3rd Subaru and I love it--for her. I wanted something that felt like a sport compact so I bought a Mazda. Thank goodness I didn't wait for the 2010.(nana)

ours is the same color, I'll have to get some pics up with the wheels we have. I actually prefer the lack of mouldings, much easier to wash n wax... our 2007 was starting to get a funky buildup where the mouldings met the panels... hard to explain but I think its something to do with the glue. Far as the traction control goes... I'll tell ya bout it since I've experienced it and not just speaking from what I assume it would be like. Surprisingly its not as intrusive as one might expect (ie the guy posting before this). I've been able to rail around a corner with solid throttle at/just past the apex and get some inside wheel spin with no TC light on or engaging. Also from a dead stop you can spin em and let off to compensate all before the TC takes charge. I've played around with it (since it rains some here in Oregon... teehee) if you stay in it while its spinning it'll engage but doesn't completely shut ya down it just kinda taps on the shoulder and says "c'mon buddy take'r easy, I'm a family mobile". If your staying in it while your tires are spinning anyways, well your not a good driver and I really don't know what to say to ya. I haven't had an opportunity to go dodge cones n test the DSC aspect of it yet.

And there it is from the lion's mouth n not a bench racer.

that sounds like a good design. the only other car I had w/ TC was a saturn L200 5 speed. I felt like it was fighting me; you couldn't feather the clutch to get traction, it just kept pulling power from you.
