Upholstery questions

Hi all – it's my first time posting here. I'm considering a Mazda2.

I test drove a Touring this weekend and loved how it drove. But I didn't like the upholstery at all – specifically the red plastic piping. So now I'm leaning toward a Sport model, simply due to my strong dislike of the Touring upholstery.

But right now, there are no Sport models in my area for me to see/feel the upholstery in that trim level. So, I'm asking for advice from Sport owners:

1. Is the Sport upholstery as high quality (and durable) as in the Touring?
2. Do you like the Sport upholstery pattern? (It looks very nice in the few pics I've found.)
3. Does the Sport have fabric inserts in the door panels? If not, then what?
4. In case you have close-up pics of your upholstery, would you post them please?

Thanks for your replies and opinions on this topic!

What didn't you like about the touring? Just the design of it?

Anyway, the upholstery on the sport is much, much less "flashy" if that's what you're trying to avoid. It looks a little bit lower quality to me than the touring, but I didn't feel each model's seats one after the other so I don't know about differences in feel.

The red/orange plastic seemed cheap, and it dominated the interior visually. I'd get tired of it real fast.

The Sport upholstery seemed contemporary without being in-your-face about it.

Just personal preference. I know many prefer the red/orange piping.

Yes...both the Sport and Touring have the fabric panels in the doors. I think the seats are more comfortable in the Touring model. They don't seem to be made different...but they do feel different when you sit on them for a bit of time.

I actually purchased my Sport model for similar reasons! The interior in the Sport is no less quality than the touring model, it only has a different pattern and lack of red piping (which is what I didn't like).

My only complaint about the interior trim differences between the two is that I really dislike the steering wheel in the Sport. I wish it was not as fat as it is. Although... I kinda just wish it was a Miata wheel. haha..

I'll try and snap some pictures of my interior later for you. :)
