Unlock trip computer on non GT MS3

Guys this hack works good but my average speed and average mpg don't seem to be updating.
Average means long term average since it was reset. It was keeping track even before you turned on the display so if you haven't reset it, it is showing the averages since the last time the battery was disconnected. Anything you do now has a very small effect. Try holding down the SET button while displaying the average. This will reset it. Then go for a drive and watch it update about once a minute.

Cool, thanks for the info!! Just got my car today and did the hack and it works great.

Doesn't work any more

I just tried this on a brand new N/A 3S loaner car and it didn't work! I think Mazda twigged to this and disabled it some other way. I did the sequence and the display gave the DIS ON response, but the trip data didn't come on. So much for freebies - Mazda is a spoil sport!

Please ignore my previous post. It worked fine after another restart. So, this is still the easiest free mod to your car. I apologise to Mazda for my harsh words.

I have a 2004 Mazda 3 hatchback,if I buy a 2006 radio will the mod work ?
I don't think you can put an '06 radio in an 04. The connectors are different. You could probably do it with a lot of creativity, but it won't be plug and play.

Sorry.

Someone mentioned that the radio needs to be "ON" before you try any of this. Usually, I turn it off before I switch the ignition off. So, I tried it again, this time leaving the radio on - works just fine. Now to see what my average MPG is..

On the way to work today it was 20.8 average, but I was going 115 on the highway whenever I could..

It's affirmative, I left my radio on then turned off the engine then went through the sequence and it worked like a charm. I tried with radio off before and it wouldnt do it. Thanks guys. Now I feel like I paid lower than msrp cause i got this freebie!

Does anyone know if this is available with a 2004 Mazda 3? Would upgrading the ECU include this feature. I have a seperate FM and AM button. Thanks.

I think your answer lies in the question of, "does any model of your year car have the feature?" If this is true, then you can probably do it. If not, then you're out. It is simply not activated on the Sport model, and comes activated on the GT.

confirmed that it works for 07 3i sport's, my buddy just bought one cause he liked my car and i gave it a whirl and it worked, also worked on a cx-7 i had for a loaner from work while my car was having work done
