Unlock trip computer on non GT MS3

scan gauge is kick ass with the avaliable information. I like to compare the scan gauge with the cars trip. It is pretty close, the car I would assume would be more accurate though.

DIS crack worked great, I thought it was going to be hard to engage for some reason, I started laughing after it worked so easily the first time. Great find!

I got it to DIS off and DIS on. But I can't get it to display anything. Followed the instructions. What am I doing wrong? Mine is an 07 M3 I Touring.

Edit: Never mind. Got it to work. Sweet....(rockon)

After you the DIS on, push the SET button and it should cycle through the data.

Too bad I don't drive it that much. She wouldn't even understand it let alone use it. (wife's car)

Hmm, I can't get this trick to work on my MS3. I may try again, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Someone mentioned that the radio needs to be "ON" before you try any of this. Usually, I turn it off before I switch the ignition off. So, I tried it again, this time leaving the radio on - works just fine. Now to see what my average MPG is..

On the way to work today it was 20.8 average, but I was going 115 on the highway whenever I could..

Unlocked this in front of the salesman when I picked my car up. He played dumb like he didn't know it was possible.
I don't understand why they just don't leave it on for every car... it's a built in feature that would never sway my decision on buying a GT over a Sport...

bet he didn't know. They usually don't know s***. I know, I was one, and the only thing I had as an advantage was that I was an enthusiast before a salesperson.

This guy is like that though. He's been selling Mazda's for somethign like 12 years and is a huge gear head. I suppose it's possible that he didn't know, I just expected him to.

Wow, Just performed the hack on my 3 and I was so damn happy. I told all my friends about it...too bad they dont drive mazdas. hehehe

BTW, this was the first 'mod' to my car. Now i want a turbo. lol

Cheers

Do we lose the mod with aftermarket?

Mod sounds fantastic. However I'm seconds from replacing my too bad not very good MP3 disabled head unit in my nonSpeed M3 with a nice aftermarket unit. Which means no CD button, etc. Anybody know the wiring or signal outs so I can simulate them with buttons, etc?

I found this on another forum. I tried it in my MS3 sport and it worked! This unlocks the trip computer on non GT 3 models, I don't know how it works on non speed 3's or other Mazdas. I copied and pasted what I found below:

I did this on my 07 MS3 last night, very cool. It's first night at home and already an upgrade.

Hey bud, check out some of the posts I've made both here and on diyma for info on this car's sound system. The head unit, which I took completely apart, doesn't really have pinouts. Instead, the face is a small computer, which talks to the main radio, which is a small computer as well. Essentially, it uses CAN-Bus technology, like the rest of the car. Actually, by law, cars must use CAN-Bus technology for 2008. My suggestion, if you'd like it, is to run a smart processor, like the RF 3sixty.2 (like I have), PPI DCX730, JL Audio Cleansweep, or the upcoming Alpine unit, or even the new JBL unit, when its available. This will keep the factory HU look, while giving an input for iPod, harddrive, etc., AND giving excellent sound quality outputs to amps and all that. My 3sixty.2 works GREAT. My problem was I didn't want to mess with the front dash's looks, nor the functionality of the display, steering controls, A/C beeps, trip computer (the one mentioned HERE), etc. The stock dash just belongs, IMO. The sound quality does not, so the processor corrects it 100%

great! so this works on all ms3s? gonna try it in the morning.
Do you have to re do the process everytime or does it stay on afterwards?

this code also works on mazda3's. i've done it numerous times already for customers who have bought from me. it worked on both 2006 and 2007 models. i could not get it too work on a 2005.

It'll stay on until you do the key sequence to disable it.
Only 06+ models have the trip computer - the HU in 04-05 is different from 06-07.
