unichip or exhaust first??

thinking of purchasing a unichip or apex dp with cat and having friend do a custom catback exhaust system for me.... which do you think would be more benifical to start with. the exhaust will cost me a bit less but i feel the unichip will take advantage of engine use for me a little better

i currently have a mbc set to 8psi and injen cai

unichip, because it was designed to work with a stock engine...

my first thing was exhaust, that left me broke and wanting ems...

I just installed my unichip (with all new silicone vacuum lines) today on my bone stock speed.

I am very happy with results. Definate thumbs up.

The engine smoothed out and feels very tight. I am very excited to start looking for TB exhausts because I can already tell the exhaust note is going to be soooooo tight.

The acceleration is very much improved. No longer do i have slight hesitation through boost. The boost is smooth and in your face. Before the Unichip i swear I had a complete lack of boost at times (possibly due to the ancient vacuum lines I replaced).

Now the car feels like its ready to be unleashed in a huge way with supporting mods. TB back exhaust is next on the list.

either or... a TB exhaust and the unichip will yield about the same gainsfor the cost. You may want to get rid of that MBC too, MBCs tend to cause spiking with the MSP!

Unichip, is the best bang for the buck !! Gets rid of the hesitation, and the car just feels and pulls great !!!

ok, let me first say I have both (dp and Unichip). For starters the Unichip was programed/tuned to a MSP with a Injen CAI and a corksport exhaust (catback) IIRC. I would definately recomend getting the Apexr1 dp first for the following reason. First and foremost the 2 cats on our car are way too restrictive and hold up a lot of power. bottom line, a turbo car with no exhaust = best exhaust. typically the EMS is the last thing on a mod list as tuning is usually required due to the specific car and mods.

If you have Unichip questions click HERE

bottom line, get the dp (thumb)

I gained 30whp at redline with my Vibrant exhaust as my only mod at stock boost. I would say get the downpipe and then save for the Unichip.

Technically speaking a downpipe is the exhaust portion that connects the turbo to the midpipe or catback. These are downpipes...

my take on it: get the exhaust first. let your engine breathe before you start boosting higher than stock on it. you'll see much better gains from the unichip if you have an exhaust first. that's how I did it on my car, and its been great.

be safe man get your exhaust, then get your unichip, you like what was said earlier you should let your engine breath a little better before you start cranking up the boost, unless you dont mind blowing your engine at any given time

get both. :)

ok so i decided to credit card the car fund a bit and got the apexr1 j-pipe with cat, kartboy hangers, aero turbine muffler (the rest of the exhaust from mid-pipe to muffler is gonna be custom), AND the unichip is already otw (cabpatch) i dont feel like blowing up my car and this will almost complete my wishlist, only remaining thing i wanna get is SMIC.

btw, anybody have that aero turbine? i've heard some good things about it but dont know if its any better or worse than others

Congrats, let us know how it works for you. You should get quite a kick in the pants from your mods :)

I would say gofor the exhaust. I opened all my front end with the CAI and SMIC so I plan to open up the rear end next with an exhaust purchase. Tnen the unichip.. I am about halfway there I need another 350 and I am gonna order the Vibrant.
