Uncomfortable front passenger's seat

try reclining the back support of the seat to see if it feels better

You could always cut some foam out of the rear of the seat bottom. Miata people have done that for years to get a deeper seat bolster.

I test drove and checked several CX-5's on the dealer's lot and found this to be a MAJOR PROBLEM. I can't beleive Mazda did not design these seats to be more comfortable. All the other engineers on the team seemed to do theri jobs very well, but the seat guy screwed up! Mazda should provide a fix to all that complain about the seat configuration.

You are absolutely right. I spend time as a passenger in my wife's 2014 Mazda 3 and the passenger seat is absolutely diabolical. It is low, hard, short, narrow and never fails to leave me in some degree of pain, even after the shortest of journeys. And don't get me started on the ludicrous headrests, which slope forward so far that you cannot sit upright. I ended up having to replace the passenger's one with one from an earlier model. According to Mazda, you are meant to sit with the seat reclined so that the headrest doesn't cause a problem. They are oblivious to good posture.

They will also try and tell you that nobody else has ever a problem with the seats. Only trouble is, they have forgotten that this is the Internet age and there is evidence all over the Internet that these seats are miserable. In my opinion, it is all about getting the highest possible score on safety tests. They seem to think that if the car is safe, nothing else matters.

Even a short journey causes bodily pain? I've ridden in a lot of cars in the last 50 years and at no time did a cars seat (on a short ride) feel any more than odd, never bodily pain until I had been sitting over an hour. But we were discussing the CX-5 seats here, not Mazda 3. Somehow the automotive press finds CX-5 seats one of the strong points of the vehicle (as do I).

But pretty good for a first post.

i don't even know why I am bothering to reply, but here it goes.

hopefully everyone can just agree that un-bolting the seat mount can alter the system from how it was designed, and leave it at that.

Yes, it alters the system, often for the better. I recommend it. I am 6'6". I often need to modify my cars seats. Over the years I have moved the tracks back. Tilted the seat, removed it and modified the shape of the pan with a welder, trimmed foam and completely replaced the seat with a different brand. I do what I want to do to my cars and I take personal responsibility for my actions.

BTW. I have changed brand and size of tires, run snow tires, changed brakes, headlights, added a trailer hitch and more. It is my car.
If your seat is not comfortable then fix it.
