My current "stock" Dunlap 5000's are on their last rotation and are about done! I have 37k on the car. I will be very lucky to make it to 40k without replacement. (I am glad to seem them go as they really suck in the rain and winter!)

Before making a decison keep in mind that I live in Ohio and my Protege is a daily driver with about 20k per year which includes rain, some ice and certainly some snow through the Cincinnati and Dayton region so these must be used year round...

Going to stick with stock size: 195.50.16

I think the performance nod may go to the Toyo's, but with a treadwear rating of only 300 they don't promise to last very long. I think the Khumo's, with a treadwear rating of 420 and very good all-season performance are the better overall choice.

I can only tell you about the Proxes 4's, which I've had for about 33K miles and they will be on their wearbars by 36K I'd say. I like them alot but I will tell you that during winter they have less than desired grip when it's slippery launching from a stop and inclines), although they are stable at cruising speeds. Great in wet and dry. Softer sidewall so I run extra psi. All around excellent tire, but even though my area doesn't get much snow/ice, because my wife drives it too, and carrying kids, I am switching to either Falken 512's in November or something else that may bite better when I pull onto a slippery roadway or try to get up my driveway.

Im in cincy also and rdy to get rid of the crappy stock tires.
I was trying to decide between these...
Kumho ECSTA ASX
Bridgestone Potenza G009
BFGoodrich Traction T/A V
Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S
Toyo Proxes TPT

I like the first 2 alot

Falken Ziex 512. I've run the ASX on stock and aftermarket rims (17x7.5). No comparison to the ASX in handling and traction. The falkens do MUCH better in the snow I have been through. The Falkens were great in the dry also, much better grip and feel than the ASX's.

as a former cincinnatian, i went with the toyo proxe 4's. great fun in the summer, and decent handling in the snow and rain. they are rated at 40k, but if you drive like me, you wont get 40K. hope this helped.

have you thought about Pirelli PZero Nero's? I was going to get 2 sets for both my cars(I live in CT) the ones for my P5 ended up being a major project(the place I was getting them from) so I ended up switching to the Toyo Proxes 4. I like the Toyo's and I like the Pirelli's, if I had to drive in the snow I would take the car with the Pirelli's. They ranked 2nd for all seasons at tirerack and have good treadwear.
