Turboing With MP3 Ecu?

hey guys, i was wondering who has a turbo mp3 that still uses the mp3 ecu? i was thinking about turboing my mp3, but read that the mp3 ecu has more advance timing and makes it hard to turbo. but with a fuel/time controller or something like that would work.

You will be fine so long as you use a form of EM other then FMU/voltage clamp. If you are going to run a FMU it is very easy to find a P5 ECU to use instead.

ya lol just scrolled down the forum index n found out wat it was. wats the difference between fmu and em? em controls are n fuel through the ecu? and the fmu controles the fuel pressure goin into the cambers? looks like ems are more expensive too... i think im better off getin a hiboost kit. they come with em i think.

I have been running a turbo and the MP3 ECU for 2 years now at over 200whp and 8psi with no problems. When I lived in MD, I made 228whp at the dyno event up in NJ at Modern Performance Inc. (MPI).

I run the MPI tuner from MPNick that allows me to control the timing, stock injectors and xtra injectors. If you are planning on turboing it, definatly get an EMS that can control timing. The MPI tuner is $685.

An FMU just raises the fuel pressure to give more fuel, but no timing control. You will only be able to run 4-5psi with that and be "safe".

are you on 8psi with stock internals? i think protege2k did that n blew his motor? i dont remember, but do remember a mp3 blew it cuz of that. so the fmu would let me use safe boost, but if i want more i would have to switch over to a em, and the mpi one is good right? dam i really should had gotten "Maximum Boost" book in the f/s section. now i should just kick myself.

I boosted about 10psi on a FMU. The a/f ratios were just right but it was timing I think that did me in in the end.

NEVER been below 8psi, that's as low as the Wastegate will go. Been running the same setup for 2 years with ZERO problems and a stock motor and tranny. Timing control is the key to longevity, and being a little conservative with it helps too.

o ok, so anything more than 7 psi thats when i have to get some kind of em, does anyone know if the em that comes with the hiboost kit will work on the mp3? im pretty sure it will but i wanna double check.

Haltech F10 is fuel only, not timing. You would need a full stand alone to do timing. The MPI is a piggyback that does fuel and timing.
