TurboCharged 3 Rotor RX8

yeah the 26b was the motor mazda made for the Lemans 787b the first (and I think only) japanese production car to win the 24hr Lemans race.

Yup...many have tried and many have failed. It takes alot to run an endurence race as oppose to running 800 hp in 40 laps. Toyota and Nissan all tried

REliability is the name of the game and Mazda their racing reputation on endurence races.

Honda nearly won the GT2 class with a heavily modified NSX but developed clutch problems durring the last race.

does mazda still mass produce 20b's? if they made that combo a production car, that would be a truely awsome super car

nope....

But like said before there is a 3 rotor version in production. its actually racing right now (race spec version). The American Lemans SEries is racing a 3 rotor version of the renisis. And Good motors come from race cars. Most likely the next true rotary sports car will be RWD, light, 2 seater with a 3 rotor.

The cosmo was also sold in Australlia and Europe right? Up to the early 90s I beleive. Although earlier versions were NA.

Also many people dont know that the Rotary sports cars was concieved because of a Nissan car...called the Hakosuka GTR (skyline). Back then the skyline was small, RWD, light and super high reving. it dominated the Japanese racing scene. Then Mazda came out with the RX-3 to compete with nissan and eventually the Savanna RX7. But Nissan went away from its heritage and became heavier and AWD.

Early years of Japanese racing

Back in the day japanese racing was al about MAzda vs Nissan (GT races) now its Honda vs Toyota (F1).

for the moment no.but i hear that's an another 3 rotor comes from mazda renesis variant.

the 3 rotor that mazda is making is nothing new....they are just starting production of the 3 rotor motor again. Same design as the Cosmo 20b that everyone with a 3 rotor uses. Really all they have to do is start making the eccentric shaft and housings again, the only thing that MIGHT be different is the rotors...I think they are going to use the lighter redesigned RX8 rotors...since its NA the 10:1 compression would be ideal!

The reason its called the renesis 20b is for marketing.....

like the cars in pro drag racing and nascar...its not really a 800hp RWD Dodge stratus....but for marketing it is....

they already have (thumb) at the moment I think only the few factory backed teams can get them, but after a while they should open it up to all the people that are supported by mazdamotor spots.....then eventualy..maby a crate motor!!! (first)

It would be nice to be able to get a 0 mile 20b for a few k

Thanks (glare)

good ******* lord......i can't believe this s***....an RX-8?? holy s*** that is so amazing....that would be awesome if someone on this forum had the money to custom fabricate a motor like that with the works into a protege.....What would be the main problem with doing a swap like that? I know it is rwd so you are looking at the whole rear end issue, but couldn't you adjust where the motor sits so that the shifter would rest in the reach of the driver? Cut and weld some parts? Bolts? I think it could be done.....

You would have to custom make a new FWD drivetrain.

why couldn;t you just swap the motor along with the tranny? i mean.....just modify the body around motor and drivetrain....i would just imagine the rear end being a problem and the main shaft would require the welding and cutting so that it could fit along the bottom of the car

turning a FWD car into a RWD car.....you might be able to do it if you were just looking for any-setup that would fit...but having a motor and trany already picked out and making that specificly work.....thats gonna be hard....it would be easyer to swap in the AWD that fits the protege and make it RWD only......and thats just going off the stock motor.........you CANT fit a 20b in sideways...with AWD/FWD trany...it just wont work...sorry.

Off the shelf, production tranys, there are only a few that bolt up to the rotary.....A couple 3 speed manual, 4speed manual, 5speed manual, 6speed manual and some autos.
