Turbo

I like the spool stage 1. You don't have to take the front bumper off.

And it is cheaper.

Do you know anyone that has this on the board?

Terry (spoolinmp3) has said this has been his most trouble-free kit. Easy install, low boost, but nice gains. Its what I'll end up getting if I go turbo next year.

Higher boost just doesn't seem practical on these cars without proper engine management. So if I ever get sick of 4.5psi, I'll save up for the intercooler upgrade and some engine management. But that would be awhile.

That's what I am thinking.

Our cars where not made to be all out racers.

So, I think the Spool stage one is good.

Just seems like I need a little more power for merging into traffic. Thats all.

HiBoost

I am concerned on emission testing. I know YP5 Toronto got one from you. WIll it pass emissions.

Our cars are ULEV, so with a LEV rating with the turbo and one cat. Will the numbers be different?

It should pass emissions. Right now we are mapping it to work in closed loop at idle and while cruising with the F10 and E6X.

Depends on how much boost you are going to run..If only 4.5lbs..like spools..you should be fine..but the more you run..the more you will burn out your clutch...LSD is not needed..but it is alwayz suggested!

How many miles on your car with the turbo?

Are both cats still on?

Are you happy with it?

Any issues?

Did you get an emissions test yet?

40,000 or so I guess, no issues, yes I am happy and yes still have both cats. No I havn't had it e tested yet but it should pass. Since fuel flow and air flow are relatively the same at the testing levels it should pass no problem.

yea, i'd be interested in getting some whp numbers from the essatialspeed kit. I'm in Montreal so it might be less trouble ordering that one rather than getting spool or hiboost (unless there are no problems with Cutoms and hidden tax crap)

PSi generally running 6-8, have gone as high as 13. I believe the last time I went to the dyno it was 175whp. I went with Kevin from essentialspeed because the wanted to see the numbers. I also had a base line dyno on the same machine below in the 85-90 whp range. I only use the dyno as a guage of the improvements though. Also note that this is on an automatic. I wouldn't say that it is similar to the FM set up as it either has no intercooler for the stage 1 or it has a nice large one for the stage 2. As well the manifolds are very different.

What car are you driving Mark?

I've seen a lot of problems posted recently with turbo setups on Autos. But at 40,000 kms with no problems, I guess that 175whp is safe for the auto tranny?

I've been looking into essential speed as well, but am concerned with longevity/reliability of the car with a turbo setup (it's my daily driver and I can't afford to replace the engine), but if you've got 40,000 trouble free kilometers under your belt then I might start saving faster :)
