Hey guys-
I am working on building a custom turbo for my MP3 and I need a little help. I will probably go with the manifold from spooolin as well as the downpipe. I want to get a FM BOV, what is that going to cost me? Also, I would like a decent sized intercooler for not toooooo much dough. As far as turbos go themselves....I have seen mit. 16g's around here, T3, and even IHI's. I want something along the lines of .60 trim and 82 exhaust for my setup. I need some help with brands of turbos, pricing, quility, as well as where to get them...I found some great ones on ebay...but not sure they are quility especailly if they are used.
Cheers!

Well, I am so glad to hear you're building your own turbo.

As far as trim, etc, most turbos come in a wide range. Changing shims and blades can change all that. But the T3 is right around (if not at) .60 trim. Turbos vary widely in price. I would expect to pay 600-1100 for a turbo (of course you can go higher), depending on manufacturer and specs. You'd be amazed how many companies make turbochargers, and how widely they vary.

Second word of advice, at least as far as I am concerned: There is a chance you might find a good turbo from an honest seller in auction. I personally would donate a limb before I'd buy something as finnicky as a turbo from an online seller. Headlights? yes. Turbo who's wear and misuse I cant judge until I see it, and which is the most important part of my F/I system? No. As much as it hurts, I'd probably only go new. Unless you just get one so dirt cheap that replacing it wouldnt be bad. Junkyards are a god place to go, and the mitsu 16g is all over most junkyards (as are intercoolers).

Me, I like to save up once, practice a whole hell of a lot of denial, and do it right (and new) the first time.

But then that's just me.

Dont buy a used turbo, its to much of a risk. Get an intercooler off ebay, you can get a nice starion for a 150 beans and they fit perfect!
A used turbo will run you about 300 dollars. Then a rebuild should run another 300-400 dollars. Thats 700 dollars and a headache later. New turbo=$700 dollars and no headache, plus the efficiency of a modern turbo unlike that junkyard special that came off a mid 80's ford......

Hey guys, how exactly do you mount the starions to the front of the car? I've been behind that bumper, and have a good idea of whats back there - also having a wingswest bumper I was told to rip out all the absorber (styrofoam)

The starion intercooler will bolt to the bottom of the steel bumper. All you need to do is get some type of brackets welded on the IC and then drill the holes for it. As for your cost of the complete kit. You better go ahead and realize you are going to spend around $3000. There will always be small stuff you need from NAPA or anything, and the costs will add up, trust me.
