Turbo Swap?

it depends on whether the turbo has been off before. Buy a can of PB blaster for downpipe nuts, etc.... Also, make sure you prime the new turbo

there is a bracket on the bottom of the turbo that you will need to remove I think two bolts from. On the Speed6 you should be able to pull the turbo through the top. Take the manifold out. You cannot pull it out the bottom because the transfer case is in the way.

Can I ask why you are going from stock turbo to stock turbo? If you are going to be there anyway, why not go little bigger?

Not switching, just wondering what the install process is like if and when the stock unit needs to be replaced. I probably would just get a rebuild. To upgrade to a bigger better turbo I assume there would be a lot of other things I would need to upgrade..?
it would be cool if someone would do a HOW to on a swap.

That's the bad boy I was thinking of. That should be easy to swap out?
Nothing else I would need to upgrade? Probably buy one later this summer to swap out and keep the stock unit as a backup.

has anyone got the protegegarage rebuild? im an addition to the smokey speed6 owners eversince i got my dp on. the dp is amazing, just the smoking is annoying as shyt and im thinking about doing the rebuild. if anyone has done this reworked turbo let me know.

so the reworked turbos are pretty good? the reason im asking this is because im looking into purchasing this later this week.

ima smokey ms6 owner and wanna know if my car will still smoke with this reworked turbo? also hows the power gains on em? i know on PG it says 20somewhat whp gain.

if anyone has the reworked turbo please let us know your experiences with them and what nots.

we do not guarantee against smoking with a reworked turbo. the primary focus of this upgrade is a power upgrade. it is still a K04 at the end of the day, and regardless of the parts inside it we are subject to the limitations of the platform being worked with.

the best gains we've seen from reworked turbos come from guys who are using it in conjunction with their bolt ons and a tune. you free up exponentially more power from this turbo once it can breathe better from both sides. we've had a few people put them on bone stock cars and see gains, but not nearly as much as those who've put them in cars with at least some intake and intercooler work, etc.

we rate the power potential of the turbo to be no more than 350whp. i've seen one dyno at 370 but thats not something i advocate. the turbo is simply too small and gets too hot for anything past 350 and/or 23psi.

ah ok. so how would i get rid of my smokey speed6?

should i go over to 10w 40 rather than 10w 30?

my current mods are intake, tip, dp, bov and cherry bomb mufflers.

like i said, my next step is the reworked turbo. mainly because i dont like my smokey turbo.

you've got a downpipe, which isn't going to help make your car any less smoky, sorry. you can run thicker weight oil, a restrictor pill in the feed line to the turbo, or even a catch can to try and cut back on the smoke.

Or just wait a little longer for Mazda to come out with their improved PCV system for this car.

hmm well yeah, im going with 10 40 with my next oil change and doing reworked turbo, ive never heard of the restrictor pill.

i donnt have one, but ive heard theyre pretty bad ass.

i see you have a turboxs DP speedkid, are you smoking as well?
