Turbo kits???

Hey,
I have a 2002 P5 and I've looked through alot of forums and was just wondering if a Turbo kit, like this one for exemple: http://www.hiboost.com/KITMAZDA20protege.htm
will usually contain everything u need to change on your car to make it turbo, or if you need some additionnal parts. I've seen some forums talking about the turbo being 4k$ plus all the additional changes for about 1,2,3k...
So does a turbo kit have all you need to go turbo? If not please list the extra parts and changes it would require.(Except the installation costs)

And a quick question... A mazda dealer told me that the color yellow for a P5 isnt ''Inn''.. soo am I the only one that finds yellow P5s friggin' hot??

yea, the hiboost kit comes with everything you need. other things that you would get that is not in the kit are just for your preference or convienience.

the only thing i would probably recomend buying that does not come with the kit is a new clutch because the stock one will not hold up, and a boost gauge and wideband. those will insure that your car is running properly with the turbo and engine management.

good luck!

Wasn't quite sure about all that. But can you tell me if those "kits" are any good or if I should buy the turbo alone and get the other stuff. thx

not to hyjack your post ,but i am looking at a turbo kit also but i might build a motor first. which motor is the best to start with. i am only looking for 8 to 12 psi of boost on a low compression motor. thanks

wow wow wow your getting the wrong idea, maybe i didnt explain well enough. the hiboost turbo kit is the best turbo kit avaliable for our cars. all the parts are high quality and you get what you pay for. im sure if you built your own kit, the quality and fitment with all the parts combined deff. will not match the hiboost kit, unless it was the mazdaspeed kit, which is not even worth doing since the lack of power.

if you wanna buy a turbo kit, deff. save up and buy it. you will not regret it. and remember, if you go cheap on turbo parts, go ahead and join the zoom zoom boom club.(drive2)

you have the right idea buddy. investing in a built motor before the turbo kit is a very good idea. you will gain great power and will not blow your motor, therefore having a reliable car that can actually take abuse without any future problems.

speedcircuit.net sells a great built motor for NA or turbod applications. i met the guy from speedcircuit personally and he does great work. i would deff. recomend buying his motor. he has one of his built motors in his mp3, and his car is very fast.(yippy)

Sorry if I'm thread-jacking,

but the Hi-boost budget kit doesnt come with an ECU. I was told that it's because the stock ECU can control it? Is that true?

well it comes with the haltech piggyback that controls aif fuel ratios. if you are scared of tunning you car and you are not looking for that much power, then you have a easier and cheaper alternative.

you can buy the hiboost budget turbo kit for $2500. it is the same kit, but the only difference is that it does not come with the piggyback or a blow off valve.

you can buy the stock mazdaspeed protege ecu for $300. that is preset for a turbo application. there is room for improvement for the mazdaspeed ecu, but the ecu will insure the car being safe to drive. and always later on, if you want to tune your car, go ahead and buy the splitsecond afc for the ecu, therefore leaving you the same results as the haltech piggyback system.

all these things you can buy from mazda3online.com. let us know what you decide.

Yeah well I wasn't saying the hi-boost was cheap but I heard turbos costing 5k$ and more on other forums so was just wondering. Anyway thanx alot jamesk. I do have just another question. Does the blow off valve do anything else than a nice sound or do you need something to replace it (for the bugdet kit). And as for tuning the car.. I'm not a crazy mechanic and I would get the turbo installed by someone else so should I go more with the bugdet kit? And I've looked at hi-boost.com and I didn't see any bugdet kit.. at least for the protege 2.0.

Just a little heads up for you! Hiboost has awesome products and Juan who is the owner knows his stuff. But they have major issues with customer service and there are several guys on the forums that have been waiting TOO LONG to get their stuff from them!!

Your best bet would be contact
TBK performance (Juans brother)
Protege Garage
Speed Circuit
Crossover Auto

This way they can get the kit for you if they don't have one in stock and offer customer service and take responsibility if there are problems!

the hiboost turbo kit is on ken's website. www.mazda3onlne.com.

a blow off valve releases the pressured air in the engine when your off the throttle. i would reccomend a bypass valve because the cars work best with that. the bypass valve recirculates air back into the motor. that also helps turbo lag as well.

blow off valves work, but you cant run the stock set up with them. there is no peformance gain, its mainly for sound. by pass valves help throttle response.

if you do not feel confortable about tuning and you just want the car to run good and do not worry about anything, get the hiboost budget kit, the mazdaspeed ecu and some kind of by pass valve.

any other questions, i would be glad to help!
