Turbo Kits For Sale

Hello fellow members. I am putting the finishing touches to a new turbo kit for the MP3 and P5 cars and was trying to gauge interest in such a kit. The kit will include the following:

T-28 Ball Bearing turbo
Bar and Plate Front Mount Intercooler
Cast Manifol
Reprogrammed ECU
Downpipe
Blowoff Valve
Lines and Fititings
Cold Airbox

The kit will have a few upgrades available such as 300CC injectors with higher boost levels and different ECU tuning, as well as polished intercooler piping. Also a full exhaust sytem will be offered as well as a Carbon Fibre cold air box. I am expecting the kit to be completed next month and I am trying to gauge your interest in actually buying this product. The stock kit will have 5 PSI and produce approx 175 horsepower. I am trying to keep the kit below $3700 and have you guys actually purchase them;) The extras will be availble in a second kit for approx $4500 minus the exhaust system. That kit will produce over 200 horsepower and will require a clutch upgrade which we will also be selling. I will have dyno numbers and pictures of this kit next month. Please let me know who would be interested in purchasing this kit as I need to make them in batches of 10 to be worth our time and investment. Thanks for your time guys.

Yes I am the manager of M2 Performance. We currently have performance products for the WRX and RX7.

WOW, M2 huh. Maybe they can give us another big brake kit to choose from. It's nice to see another company stepping up. I hope you guys actually buy into this as it sounds like good thing.

I will have pictures and dyno plots very soon. As for the big brake kit I have one under consideration, however I am not sure their is enough interest to fabricate one?

i for one would definately want the big brake kit, so long as it's affordable( less than stoptech!) the turbos sound so tasty too, i can not believe that all this s*** is comin out now, keep it up!

where did they get base hp 98.2 from?, i dunno much about all that jazz, "what about math, how come i wasn't ever good at that?"...eminem

the tripoint numbers have to be off, i think we discussed this in the FI forum or the Proformance forum earlier. I seriously hope our cars don't have a 42hp loss through the drivetrain.

Lets see some dyno's and ill probably be in if i don't go custom the thing that makes me want this kit is the new ecu, that seems to be a problem for alot of the people on here. isn't 5psi kind of low boost?

I've been thinking they might have been using regular instead of premium gas. The knock detection would kick in then and the MP3 would lose the extra 10 HP over the other Proteges.

That's not so bad since you're probably not wanting the advanced timing on for the turbo application anyway ... though the performance increase the MP3 would see really would be compared against the advacned timing. Those numbers maybe close to right on for a P5.

The reason for the low boost is the factory injectors are very small and we do not want to push them past 85% duty cycle for safety reasons. Thats why we will have 2 kit options, one with injectors and higher (8-9PSI) boost and one with the factory injectors and lower boost.

well that makes sense, so when will these kits be availble, or are they already? this sounds like a pretty good kit, i just don't want to be the first one to go for it hehe.

Honestly, I was just taking a shot in the dark about the big brake kit. If anyone is to get one, they'd probably be owning a P5 since those seem to be gaining aftermarket support. Tripoint commented on their dyno numbers saying that their dyno was different or something in the direction. Personally, I think there would be more interest in a Turbo Kit and exhaust system for the Protege Sedan. As far as pricing goes for a big brake kit, you should expect to pay a bit for one as the Protege is no Civic, which means our parts aren't always going to be cheap.

The Protege doesn't have a knock sensor that would retard the timing. It would take some hard core knock for it to kick in. If it did however, it would simply throw a code to your ECU and trigger the CEL.

Thanks Brett for showing some interest in our Proteges I hope you have success. I met you last november at HIN San Mateo, I was with my friend Subywan (Mike) with the Blue WRX Wagon in the Irvine Subaru booth.

second kit for approx $4500 minus the exhaust system. That kit will produce over 200 horsepower and will require a clutch upgrade which we will also be selling.

He mentions this above...doesn't say exactly how much boost that's at...but if 5 PSI = 175 HP, then 8 or 9 PSI should be around 200 - 210 HP somewhere

Hey Guys. The second version of the kit will have approx 8-9 psi and cost around $4500. This kit is not completed as yet and will not be ready for approx 3-4 weeks as we are doing extensive ECU mapping and testing to ensure the reliability of the factory components and of course the power levels that we are promising. As far as Dyno numbers go I should have some very soon, but the driveability and safety of the motor obviously come before shouting about this car made X amount of power. The factory car makes 98 horsepower at the wheels and around 102 pound fett of torque. We are striving to make this kit better than the Mazdaspeed one, while maintaing an OE apperance where possible. Now back to the big brake kit. I can have a front kit done in about 3 weeks, for a retail price of around $2100. Please tell me if there are any takers for that kit and I will start on it today. The kit would be similar to our big brake kit that we offer on the RX7 and WRX. Please take at look at out site at:www.m2performance.com and check out the RX7 brake section and WRX brake section. I think the pricing will deter some of you but I can guarantee you won't find a better system on the market. 4 piston calipers with 12.5 inch front rotors with the possibilty of making a rear upgrade as well if there is a market for it. Thanks for your time .

Is that the regular Protege with the 2.0 liter???

The reason the Tripoint numbers look wierd is becuase they used a Clayton dyno, not a Dynojet dyno. The numbers will be different.

Those numbers are with a Dynojet dyno. We expect to see at least 10-12 wheel hyorsepower for every pound of boost with this kit. A 5PSI kit will equate to around 150 wheel horsepower and 175 at the flywheel using 14% as the drivetrain loss. As for the torque numbers I find it difficult to see how we are going to match Tri-Points 413 pound feet of torque??? I am estimating that around 180 pound feet will be possible on our kit.

Turbos in winter ... cold winter....

Brett: Thanks again for showing aftermarket interest in our MP3s.

What is your opinion on a (ball bearing) turbo's operation in the dead of winter? ...Canadian winter...where it can get FRIGEN cold in January and February (one time when I went out the start the car at 6:30 am this winter, the radio said it was -33 degrees celcius). Before the rest of the group starts flaming me "dude - you drive your mp3 in winter???". Yes I do, unfortunately, spent a pretty penny 3 months after I picked it up to get some winter tires on steel rims and made it through the winter no problem (almost a 90km round trip to work each day and sometimes out to my son's hockey games on the weekend). The salt is the worse part about winter, some times I thought my car was white because I could hardly see blue!

Also, one other point made in this thread, premium gass versus regular - who uses what now? and why? are we suppose to be using one over the other? The sales guy at the dealership I bought from said just to use regular.
