Turbo Install

Hi I'm a new member, and have some questions about turbocharging my 2-liter 2002 protege lx. I have a mazdaspeed turbo and some other components (no piping, no intercooler, no blow off valve), and I was wondering if anyone has put on a mazdaspeed protege turbo kit onto their stock protege. I plan on putting an aftermarket front mount intercooler, and aftermarket blowoff valve on it as well (if anyone has any recomendations). Also,I was wondering what quality engine managment systems to use. (Would the kit be pretty much direct bolt on??, What tuning is needed??, etc.?? ). If anyone has any suggestions or comments about doing this any help is appreciated!! Thanks!!

I tuboed my ES 2.0. Most important question before everyone starts to ramble on about what to get. Are you a budget builder?

i'm gettin a MSP ecu to keep things simple. i have some stock parts and soem aftermarket parts but the build is not difficult. get familiar with how a real MSP engine looks like and go from there

I would just like to say that there is nothing wrong with budget building. what i meant by that was for example:
Hi boost intercoolers will run you about a G after everything is said and done. I went with a EBay intercooler thats twice the size(literally) and maybe my own piping at a local exhuast shop. After everything was said and done it was about 500. with 3 inch piping.
Thats the best example I can think of.

If your going to turbo you stock looking protege I would keep it a sleeper.!
good luck

the sleeper look is good, but a stock protege is ugly. the MSP looks good as hell and depending on the car sometimes the buddy club looks alright.

I know turboing my car won't be cheap, but I would consider myself a budget builder (I got my mazdaspeed turbo off ebay for pretty cheap). However, I would like quality stuff for my money. How does the intercooler you bought perform, and how did you tune your car?

3 inch intake piping?(huh)

you have a pic?

yeah, is that a typo? 3' intercooling piping is way too big. especialy if you are still on the GT25. it's takes time to presurize that area so basically you increased you spool up time

Would the MSP ecu work ok with an aftermarket exhaust and intercooler? Did you get your car tuned at all, or just plug in the MSP ecu?

the ECU is a decent tune. you can run a 3' exhaust and have a FMIC with good piping and be running really strong. which is what i plan on doing.

as well as colder plugs, since freeing up the intake and exhaust will most likely raise my boost level to a safe 7-8

No sir no typo here. I said 3 inches. I t25 is not the turbo that i have on the car. At the time it was a T3, but now is the IHI VF22(which is love).
As far as pics me and my girlfriend just split up and she took the digital camera so I maybe can get some pics for you in the near future. Trust me when I say that it looked sick. The only problem that i had was that it would over lap the throttle body which is 2 3/4 inches thats what size piping I'm going to run this time around.
And last but not least.....Yes the intercooler works great. A buddy of mine around here is running the same intercooler on his 530whp Cummin's deisel turboed 240. **** paying greddy 1500 for their name on a intercooler.
