turbo inlet installed/broken?

I purchased a inlet from DS motorspots and installed it this weekend. Everything was going ok until i tried to unhook the 5/32 vacumn line from a parts that has 2 vacumn lines going into it. The plastic pc broke off the OEM unit. My question is this: What is this part and what effect does it have on the car? I did plug off the inlet side and no CEl or notice any performace difference. I like to replace this part but i have no idea what it is?

Oh God!! You just destroyed your engine!!

Actually others have reported breaking the same line while installing the inlet pipe, so you're not the first.
