FYI!

If you park your car outside over night in a neighborhood of cats, you'll find like 15 cats under your car. Meow!

Hey, I put a turbo on my P5, what kind of engine mod's would have to be done to reinforce my engine so I don't blow it. Also is the P5 Front wheel or rear wheel drive??

dude, i don't think you should be putting a turbo on your car if your don't even know if it is front or rear wheel drive.

and by the way, all protege's are FRONT wheel drive.

Hey whatever if he has 5 grand then more power to him, literally.. although I'd ask some advice here first on what turbo to get, who to get it from, and whom to have install it, etc...

The guy that told me about it said they are sill doing tests and sould have there results within a month...but man with 220HP :D the MP5 will kick a**

I agree and on top of that an intake system could be added to gain even more and more power with more and more mods.

a CAI would probably do nothing for a turbo'd P5/MP3/Pro...if its intercooled, the intake charge is probably as cool as its gonna get at that point. of course, you could have sprayers on the intercooler, or have NOS to further cool the intake charge. after having a turbo built, i think a proper exhaust, a well-designed intake mani, and a good tuning will be the most we can do to further enhance the turbo. oh yeah...and once we can get some forged internals...we'd see some CRAZY power goin on...

Kep0 is right in thinking that a CAI would do nothing for a turbo'd car. The cooler air would be going right into a hot ass turbo, so unless it is significanlty cooler, don't expect to see any gains. This questions was a hot topic on the I-club for a while.

CATS

YES, THERE ARE 2 CATS AND 1 RESONATOR, ONE CAT IS RIGHT UNDERNEATH YOUR MANIFOLD, AND ANOTHER WHERE YOUR REAR SECTION OF EXHAUST MEETS, BY THE RESONATOR

closer than you think...

well, finally got a call back from these guys...the huge delay was in receiving the turbo...

based on my conversation today, i'll be getting a call sometime next week to set an appointment to bring my car in. everything's already been fitted on one of their cars, so just actual implementation & making sure nothing blows up.

i don't have a solid answer in regards to gain or price since that still needs to be tweaked. i was told we're looking at anything from 180hp to 220 hp (from the original 140), depending on what the car can realistically handle. keep in mind that my goal is to have a drivable car for everyday use that's just faster. and since I don't have the greatest knowledge of the inner workings of the engine, i want minimal mainenance. soo...i'll keep you posted after i get my car next week. i was told they'll pro'lly need my car for around 2 weeks.

as for price, that's to be determined on the fuel management system...

Time to wait...

Ok...Tri-Point official has my car now & they are starting the fitting of the turbo/intercooler. It's basically going to be a work-in-progress to see what gain the engine can safely handle, so i'll keep you posted as soon as they get back to me. That'll also determine if any internal reworkings needs to be done to the basic engine (ie: forged parts, adding a limited slip, etc.).

ETA: 1-2 weeks for news.

keep yer fingers crossed.

How exciting! From the sound of it, you're on the bleeding edge of this new turbo - so good luck! Please keep us informed of ALL of the upgrades necessary for the car to handle the increase in power (whether you deem them necessary, or not).

Thanks!

Nice...

So it looks like Tri-Point beat out Bell. It'll be nice to see what the motor can do stock.

bell wont be ready for a while.... now we just need to know the price of this tripoint kit and a dyno of course

price

of course. as of right now, we're tenatively looking at around 3K. that's what they told me (no labor costs due to R&D). but the 3K can fluctuate depending on fuel management or any other tinkering required (aside from the turbo/intercooler). and as for the dyno, you can be sure i'll have that for you guys.

more to come...
