tunersteve's 2011 Mustang GT thread

I think eliminating the brake dive which is a known issue (saw it myself on Sunday!) with retuned shocks and springs will be a huge improvement.

Considering you could pick up the FRPP FR3 suspension for $1500, that's about all you need to do to finish the suspension.

Today I managed to get the shift boot I ordered to work. There were some boogers left over on the inside collar that wouldn't let it slide over freely, and an "ear" that was on the inside of the boot that needed to be removed. Once that was done, it slid down real easy, and here's the result:

Update:

Picked up my Lamin-X kit for the headlights and fogs yesterday. Not sure when it will be installed, but I have it ready to go if the weather warms up.

I also spent some time at Rehagen Racing yesterday, talking with them about a suitable suspension upgrade for the car. They are a very well known race team who specializes in the S197 chassis. Their driver, Dean Martin, was a vehicle dynamics engineer for SVT, and was responsible for some of the greatest cars in their history, so he knows his stuff. After talking with him about my plans, we laid out a pretty solid package that will be going on the car in phases next year:

- FRPP 1" lowering springs
- FRPP dampers, static or adjustable (waiting on details about valving before deciding on these)
- FRPP FR500 rear lower control arms with rubber bushings
- FRPP Front strut mount upgrade
- Steeda adjustable Panhard bar
- Steeda bumpsteer kit
- Steeda adjustable front swaybar
- Maximum Motorsports adjustable camber/caster plates

Most likely, the rear LCAs will go in first, and after that, I will pick up the parts and do the rest all at once. This will give me a very streetable suspension that I can take to the track without changing much, and not truly bastardize the ride quality.

FYI, you realize the Brembo package is more than just wheels and brakes, right? I'd really suggest you drive one of each before you make a decision. It was a very noticeable difference in the handling and ride.

No I was not aware of that, the salesman didn't seem to really know what he was talking about. Ill have to check out one without the Brembo's to compare.

The BBP includes the brakes (obviously), but also includes different springs, shocks, AdvanceTrac tune (which may also include slightly sharper steering) and rear LCAs compared to the base GT model. The wheels are also the widest available (19x9) and come with summer only tires. The downside: no spare. A tire inflator kit and a can of fix-a-flat are all you get.

First oil change done today at the dealer. 8 qts. of oil with filter cost $41 to change. Debating on going with full synthetic on the next oil change, so I need to price out my options.

Nice!, you always get to try stuff out! how do you do it!!!

Also just an idea.. you should update your OP when you get some time.

I've been very fortunate with knowing people in the right areas to pull strings for me. This came as a bit of a surprise to me, but I won't turn it down (obviously).

When I get more free time I'll update the first post with the latest on the car.

Nicely done on the shifter. I'm looking forward to seeing the sideskirts.

Not sure when they'll go on. With the weather cooling off, they may just go in the attic until spring. I also want to get the CS front fascia and put it on to finish up the exterior changes. I haven't decided yet if I want to add the Boss 302 splitter to the bottom of the fascia (just found out they are separate pieces, not sure on price yet).

DAMN NICE! cant wait to see all that on as well as side skirts & front fascia!!
all that suspension work will be the perfect compliment, canyon carving street-tastic fun in your future! :D

I thought you might like that. First thing coming will be the rear LCA's off of the race car. Cromoly steel and poly bushings. Should cure the wheel hop issues I'm having. After that, I'll probably piece the whole setup together and drop it in at once.

are you looking to get better 1/4 times... or just going for better over-haul handling balanced with power increase.

just curious about your goals.

Car won't see much drag time. Going for improved handling for autoX/HPDE in the future.

Two of the biggest gripes I have are the brake dive and wheel hop. Shocks/springs will cure brake dive, and new LCAs will cure the wheel hop issue. Everything else is complimentary to those items. Not to mention with the power increase, the upgrades will help.
