TSB's...Tech Service Bulletins on Mazda3

I was wondering about our Mazda3,

There seems to be a lot of talk on Edmunds.com (another car info source where owners can post info on problems/solutions) about our brakes. Does anyone know if Mazda has launched a TSB on the brake system of our car concerning either:

1. Rear wheels showing more brake dust than the front wheels?
2. Rotors front and/or rear showing "grooves" after a few hundred miles?

Has anyone noticed this on their cars? (I know Macadonious did) I have only a few miles on mine (145) and have noticed a "mark" starting on the right front rotor. It is not a groove, but definitely a visible "line-mark".

If there is a TSB, can someone direct me to it or just direct me to Mazda's general TSB list?

Anyone got any advise or words of wisdom on this?..

I would greatly appreciate the help!

Tay

The MZ3 owners I've talked to have had them fixed at the dealership. It's a first year car, so it's not gonna be super perfect. They'll release TSBs as more problems come up, if any.

i was wondering the same thing, i have had 3,4 or 5 times as much brake dust on the rear wheels opposed to the front ones,i have yet to see grooves in my brakes, hope it doesn't go that far.
but your saying the dealer are handling the situation themselves? is anyone getting a tough time from the dealerships?
shag'

The only official TSB's on this car are:

- how to install license plate holders (some document stopped being distributed in '04 making these instructions part of a TSB - there isn't a problem or anything)
- moisture inside head & taillights under certain conditions (the TSB says this is normal)

Regarding the brake issue, depending on the severity, some dealers are:
- replacing pads/rotors
- machining the rotors
- doing nothing/say it's normal because of new materials being used

I've got the heavy brake dust on the rear wheels also. My car also has the ABS/EBD system so that seems to be the common denominator.

The check engine light also came on this morning. I gonna guess it's the thermostat code that others have been mentioning.

I just got back from a 2000 mile road trip with my 3 and noticed alot of grooves on the rear rotors.....Appt with dealer on wednesday will let everyone know

Mine has 200 miles and showing grooves - in fact they are marks as there are no bumps of grooves, at least that my finger tips can feel.... let's keep an eye on it as I will do nothing till I feel it is getting worst or a TSB is issued.

ABS or not, please specify

Can ya guys please post if you have ABS or not? I'm trying to see if this is an issue only with people that have the ABS package.

By the way they are present only in the left front disc... all others are ok. Still can't find any bump or groove with my fingertips.... keep you all posted as time passes...

I don't have ABS/EBD on my brakes (base Canadian version), but I do have the excessive brake dust on the rear wheels. And it comes back in no time.

But I do have a knocking noise when I come to stop. Of course I drive a manual, and it's as I am coming to stop and I depress the clutch that I hear that thud.

Anyone else have this problem?

I have excessive brake dust on my rear wheels also, and I DON'T have the ABS package..
One thing to keep in mind is that the rotors are soft steel and will groove easily.. Small grooves, not big ones, that is pretty normal..
I think the reason for the excessive dust is cheap, soft pads used on the rear of the car, but it would bring to mind what the brake bias is, because the front brakes should do 90% of the stopping with the rear taking up the slack or on hard stops.. (crazy)

I don't have the ABS package but I have tons of brake dust on my rear wheels and hardly any on the fronts. I just put on some aftermarket wheels and they will probally give some asshole bend over story about aftermarket wheels causing it. Those ******* *****. I am still gonna call about the problem. I am also hearing/felling a slite differance from the back brakes as well. I havn't checked the rotors. We will see.

5000 miles now... NO ISSUES.... the grooves disappeared by themselves slowly after 2,500 and gone by 4,000. Production date is 12/03.

I have ABS and not to say that everything is perfect... I have dust all over the rear wheels.

(blah)

I have 6000KM,, about 3900 miles now on my 3 month old Mazda 3 Sport GT

I have mentioned the Excessive rear brake dust to my dealer 3 times- My rear wheels go almost black in less than 2 weeks- All 3 times they have said "It's Normal" -I have ABS-

Ya right!! I have NEVER seen a car with back wheels coated black with brake dust... The front wheesl should be doing the majority of the braking

Hope everyone calls in and complains, maybe Mazda will look into it.

(could the brake proportioning be all messed up from the factory)

Interesting Observation

Walking back to work the other day from lunch, I am passing a few parked vehicles and notice the brand new Volvo S40 (the one that shares the Mazda3 platform) parked on the side. Was admiring the looks of the car when I saw something interesting.....Its back wheels were "also" covered in brake dust and the front wheels were 'very' clean looking.

Then I could not help but notice a relatively new VW Golf GLS parked right next to it with the exact same problem. I had heard some VW's have that symptom and I now noticed one that did.

Maybe it is something with the types of brake pads they use these days for the rear brakes.....(dunno)
