trz vs. corksport Motor Mount

so i'm looking to do something about my rear mount.

i know that Corksport makes excellent parts and the TRZ rear mount has gotten great reviews...

not sure which one i'm gonna try out first...

which do you guys prefer and why?

I haven't had a TRZ however...I've had the inserts and currently have an AWR 88 dur. There is little difference between the two. THe AWR is a touch stiffer.

Personally, I think either makes a decent upgrade. Now that I'm pushing a bit more boost, I think both are on the soft side. I am looking to get something a little more robust.

Controlo, Did you look at the street unit motor mount at all? Almost everyone I have talked to who has it loves it. Good balance between performance upgrade and not-to-severe vibrations. As long as you get the one with the softer bushings that is. And its not too expensive either.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the benefit of upgrading the motor mount?

The stock mount is soft and lets the engine flex back and forth in the engine bay under higher strain. This reduces the levels of vibration inside the passenger area, but this also adds wheel hop / causes you to lose some torque/ reduces traction / makes you feel less control over the car. Adding a stiffer motor mount will help with traction, allow you to regain torque that was previously lost in the flexing of the engine, and just make the car overall feel much more solid. It will even make your shifting feel more precise because you will feel more connected to the car.

If you are ever going to do even a few mods to your car, this should be one of them. In short, the mount helps you put all of the power you are making where it belongs: the ground (as opposed to being wasted in causing the motor to flex up and down). And it makes you feel like you are driving a much more efficient, smoother machine.

Reduces fore/aft engine/trans movement. It's a common problem with the Mazdaspeed3. It's exacerbated when you increase the car's output.

It cuts down/stops wheel hop, helps with cleaner shifts, and gives the car an overall planted feel. It's also a 10 minute swap and well worth it.

I've driven both the trz poly and the stiffer awr mount and couldn't tell a difference between the two other than the awr with the ac on rattles a bit more. I have no experience with the corksport but any of them will be a good upgrade.

I've had CS inserts, trz poly and SU... for me SU was the best for comfortable DD and aggressive driving. TRZ poly was too stiff and just vibed a lot..got annoying when I was just driving normally around town. The inserts were great and i used them for a long time, I just eventually wanted something stiffer as I added more mods

I will say the AWR 88dur is spitten image to the stock mount minus all the empty space and crappy bushing in the stock mount.

thanks guys.

i think what i'm going to end up doing is trying the corksport inserts first. they're cheap and i can always get rid of them for 25 bucks or something if i want something stiffer.

good call. I have about 15,000 on mine and they were very good too me. but i will stiffen up when the full set of motor mounts becomes available as I have a bit more power and have tightened the car up some more. I am looking into more in depth crap for chassis for next season. Great first or early mod though, the inserts. I recall after install and starting the car up first time and revved up and idled in garage i giggled for a while. You will too!

yeah. i don't know if they'll be stiff enough but i also don't know if the full trz mount is necessary.

i'm sure the extra little vibes will make my exhaust sound a little better. it already sounds good. test pipe only.

the trz is pretty easy to install. when you take out the stock mount and put the cs inserts in it, it makes the mount harder to get back in. it still goes in...but it's just a bit more difficult. i have the trz mount and ******* love it

I have the TRZ mount also. I love this mount and I think it is perfect for the money. Really easy to install, 10 min tops. Not as expensive as some of the others and the vibrations aren't bad at all. I don't even notice it now.

A few people have said this about the CS inserts but I did not experience this. The inserts are not reversible, they will stick out further if not put in correctly and make it hard to slide them in. If installed properly the MM should slide back in easily, mine did.
