Trying to hit 250whp, help?

Spicy Orange MazdaSpeed Protege
I know the stock hp is 170 to the flywheel, so I'm guessing maybe 150 maybe 145 to the wheels :( Right now I have the corksport exhaust 2.5'', injen cai, custom smic, front and rear motor mounts, and the welded dif(I had one break). I've done an oil change every 3,000 or less, changed spark plugs, reset the ecu a couple times, and I am pretty sure I've done all the basic maintanence and it seems to run good. But I want to get to 250 WHP. I know an EBC will be one of my next purchases(probably run it at 7psi daily 10 psi for runs), and for my last one I want to get the unichip and then get it dynoed and tuned. What else will I need to hit that 250 mark? I don't really want to change out the pistons and rods. Any advice?

I would run 9psi max to be safe. You will want to get a front mount intercooler, upgraded intake and exhaust manifold, upgraded downpipe, then a good dyno tune on the unichip. See where that puts you.

I already have the Injen CAI and the SMIC. I know the FMIC is better but is it really worth spending the money for that now, after I already have the SMIC bought and installed.

Well the Injen has nothing to do with the intercooler, and I'm just telling you what would be needed to achieve 250whp. Front mount's support more power, that's all there is too it. The SMIC upgrade is much better than stock, but still heatsoaks. Trust me, I had the SMIC upgrade before as well.

I have exacly 250WHP and I have megasquirt ecu,GM LS2 coil, turbosmart e-boost 2 set at 15-16 psi, exhaust mani steed speed with turboback GHL,intake mani stock with vtcs deleted, custom 3" CAI and FMIC,cam intake FS-ZE,stock turbo.I'm forged by the way.I dont think you can push 250whp with stock internal.

boo... I guess I'll just get the boost controller and unichip, get it tuned and dynoed and see what I'm at.

your gonna have to spend a pretty penny, even with my mods at 10 psi i think im only runnin about 240 crank HP, original owner dynoed my car at like 16 psi and got like 260-270whp but also he had AEM standalone unit, whereas since the original owner it has broken and i now have SSAFC

Why is our car so damn slow? I thought it was a mazdaSPEED, at least it hugs the corners well.

honestly i wouldnt want more then 300whp at the wheels on a FWD car anyway, even at that your burnin tires through the gears, especially with a car this light... what is it 2600 curb weight?

I believe it's 2,860 lbs or something like that. But I want it to be quick! Plus there are always those 2 step launch controls if you can't launch without burning excessive rubber.

buy the pipe kit from a well known website and source a fmic its cheaper than buying a kit.

yes you can get 250whp with all suporting mods and haltech. and as for buying a boost controler and unichip.....unichip comes with an internal boost controller. but if you want to go the tuning route go haltech.

is the haltech worth the extra $ over the unichip or greddy e-manage? And which Haltech? 1000?

Best I've seen on a stock motor and stock turbo is 240WHP, Look up "slomsp03.5" he has his mods listed. but he is very well tuned on a SSAFC and was pushing 14psi which is actually just at Stock T25's power range. Either way it's not safe. We were all expecting to see his car blow on the dyno.

pirana hit 275 with mods very simular to mine on stock turbo and stock bottom end tuned at 17psi or something on unichip buy sam. but he wasnt scared to blow the motor as he had forged internals already set aside.

for 1 a ssafc wont get you to 14psi due to the timing wont be their and will blow up before 13psi.lmao second any haltech will do . im getting the 6x or 8x which ever Sam has in stock on nov 15. on stock enigine with proper suportimg mods their is a guy in hawaii that lives down the road form me putting 260whp @15psi and has been for over 6months now...weather it will last is another story. every car comming of the production line is different no 2 cars or parts will ever be the same due to the metal.....ie the way its heated, how fast it was heated and how fast it gets cooled off. thats where the thickness comes into play for pistons rods ect. so in reality no 1 realy knows the limitations of his car untill its pushed to them.

you can, but its hard.

no, its not, unless you have an unlimited budget. people have done it on SSFTC's and unichips. emanage works like junk on the MSP.

for 250whp, you need a 2.5" exhaust all the way back, FMIC, unichip, exhaust mani, 440cc injectors (i think), intake mani would help, EBC, boost gauge, wideband, and a wicked tune. a larger turbo would help considerably, as the GT25 is out of its efficiency range at redline above OEM boost. thats not to say its a bad turbo, its adequate, but youll make more whp on a bigger turbo at the same boost - plain and simple.

all of the above would probably make 250whp @10psi on a GT28rs, assuming you have a good tune, and the knowledge that youre pushing engine limits at 250whp.

uni-chip iswhat like700or somethinglike that?and haltech is 915 howisit not worth it. haltech can betunedby any shop. uni-chip cannot be tuned by any shop. the gt 25 isnt outofit effcienty range look at the flow chart.

A lot of that I had possibly planned to buy, especially the gt28. Like I said I want to hit 250 if possible, but even 220 I'd be happy with.
