Transmission Upgrade

Well, the biggest difference to me is the LSD. No more one wheel burnouts, just torque steer. LOL. As far as the gears go, I have been told that it will change your gear ratio a tad but I don't think it did.

One wheel burnouts kick ass. Thats the one thing I hated in my '02 Protege ES. You start to have fun and one tire breaks loose and fun is over. (drive2)

The GTX 3rd is the same ratio, jsut stronger. The GTX 4th is the same ratio as well. GTX 5th is taller.

Yeah, 5th was the one that I was told would be different. I don't remember who said it but my revs don't seem any different.

I took my car to an Aamco transmission shop to get it fixed, and they say it would be better (and cheaper) to just swap the tranny. He claims he can order a JDM spec transmission and I was wondering if anybody knows whether they come with LSD's or not?(uhm) He also claims they're stronger and the gearing is a little different.

Hahahahahaha... Sorry dude, didn't mean to laugh.

JDM trannys are exactly the same. Even if he did get one, you wouldn't know the difference in his eyes. He'd probably just do a tranny service on your original trans and say he swapped it. Aamco steals.

Thanks for the info...I'm gonna request the old trans...I'll have them ship it to my house or something. I've been waiting since Friday and then to be ripped off ain't good for my senses...(flame)

Ya man, there really is no such thing as a "JDM" trans. They'e the exact same as what's already in your car. Possibly with more miles. I smell bulls*** from them. Just be careful. Check the build date o nthe tranny too, and see if it's newer than yours. If it is, it'll have the revised synchros and 1-2 shift fork.

I see your bill adding up like this:

Super Limited JDM Transmission: $3450
JDM to USDM bracket adapter thingy: $1000
JDM shifter with super smooth bushings: $700
Disposal of crappy USDM transmission: $250
Labor and phone calls to Japan: $4500
Test drive to make sure it works: $100

Bloody thieves.

You could just buy my car.. It already has the "JDM" transmission. HAH(drive2)

Ya'll are funny!!! Now I'm gonna order my own tranny and pick the old one up when they're done...where can I get a good one?

Yep. It's the same, with the addition of an LSD, beefier clutch fork and pin, and the thicker axles if they're included.
I went to pick up my car...there's NO way I'm gonna get them to do the work. Before I get somebody to just junk the old tranny I would like to know what's broke inside of it. It seems like nobody wants to actually open it up to see what's broke...I wanna know just to know. I'm gonna try some other spots in my area. Aamco just wants to get paid and get rid of the old tranny. It might be something simple but I want to decide if the old one gets fixed before it's thrown out. The saga continues...

My cars still available. HAH (headbang)

So is it the shift forks and the synchronizerse that mainly keep the transmission in gear? I'm sure it's more to it than that, but I'm wondering if these are two of the main parts I need to be looking at to replace. If it's gonna only be a couple of parts or it's gonna be about $500-$700 to fix that then I don't really need a new tranny right?

I wish I could just take my tranny out and get it rebuilt w/ an LSD but this is my daily driver. It was driving me nuts not to drive it for the 2 weeks it was at the "shops". But if I get the problem fixed with this trans I'm gonna go ahead and strengthen the other internals.

"Bring me you tranny. I'll rebuild it for you."

Wish it was that easy...thanks!
