had a friend of mine say he got his tranny replaced in his p5 as a recall, due to the lack of engineering on mazdas part on our 3rd gear/ 5th gears, now he told me that the only way that it can be replaced is if the 3rd or 5th gear fork breaks has anyone heard of this. I have searched on google, but currently im in baghdad, so its not like i can really go to a mechanic or mazda and ask. plus its easier to ask my fellow p5 drivers, instead of a maz tech looking at me like i smoke crack..lol.......HOWEVER YES ALL OF THIS DOES SOUND PRETTY FISHY TOO ME ESPECIALLY SINCE ITS NOT ON ANY RECALLS ON GOOGLE

bump...anyone have any info on this anyone done this, maybe yal got suggestions maybe for new tranny that wont cost me my wife daughter and my both things in between my legs.

From what I recall, there's a TSB on the 3rd gear synchro, that is all. There's a newer part out that supposedly isn't as fragile.

I already changed mine, started popping out of gear after a really... errh... fun... road trip. Used parts from this guy: mazdapart@gmail.com ...didn't cost too much, but taking the tranny down will cost quite a bit, and you'll have to buy seals and bearings and some other crap. Make sure you specify the new part given in the TSB, as there are two parts available. Or you could print out the TSB and show it to your service advisor and force them to fix it. I didn't have that luxury, my car is a Ford rebadge (Australian / Asian market) and they didn't issue the TSB locally.

i got this problem...guessing they wont fix it for me???

I broke my 3rd gear fork and it got replaced/rebuilt under warranty. I don't know of any recalls associated with the transmission.

how much did this guy charge ya, what do you mean by force service adviser like the dealer ship i bought it from, you got a complete list of what is needed or will this guy know when i tell him

Cite the TSB and he should be able to pull it up. If there's a TSB on it, the dealership should cover it even if it's out of warranty (knock on wood). The part itself isn't the expensive item... it's the cost of service.

I got mine for less than $40... but shipping was a killer (I live in the Philippines).

this isn't related to the problem but stay safe out there man. I am getting close to another deployment. This time to Afghanistan though. Glad to run into another killeen/ft.hood mazda.(usa)

hey bro you know aaron , drives a white p5 with a "i love my daily driver" on the rear windshield runs a msp set up.

I don't know if there was a recall but my wife's 2003 auto trans was replaced within a year under warranty. Something went wrong with it and they fixed it under warranty. Then the problem happend again and that time they got Mazda to replace it with a rebuilt auto transmission. No problems since.

I had my syncro replaced at 50,000 kms under warranty.
100,000 kms later my 5th and reverse gear broke and that cost me $1200 CAD.

Now I'm having problems with the syncro again - it used to grind going into 3rd once in a while but now the problem is when I go from 1st to 2nd. I have to put in gear slowly...same as when I put it into 5th - it almost always grinds and I have to let it catch the gear on its own.

fun times
