Traded my MSP last night...

rep stop trolling threads, the protege is an old dying platform and eventually you will realize that as well.

OP good luck with your new car, i was actually looking at the same model last night to replace my car..

thanks... let me know if you have any questions I might be able to help you out with.

just dropped the new car off at the dealership for the rust protection stuff... turns out the tech who was working on the MSP when I traded it in ended up buying it.

I'm glad that the car is in good hands and that I will be able to visit her every 5000 miles or so. I told the guy about this forum, hopefully he will join and keep us up-to-date on his plans for her.

The tech knew it was worth keeping, that's a sign you should have fixed it up. I can't blame you for wanting a new car, I imagine it is possible to get tired of Spicy Orange after 10 years!

Hey Nattyboy,

I understand your situation. I have been battling the same issues as of late.

My 'Speed now has 85k. The clutch, motor mounts, suspension, and brakes are all starting to show its age. In addition, I know I am going to need a new timing belt and a few other things as well. I think I would need to put in 2-3k minimum to really get her ready to tackle this season's autocross and HPDE events that I have done in the past.

I have been considering trading her in for a 2011 leftover Mitsu Evo X, which they are letting fly for 30k on the nose.

I can't tell you how many times I have seriously considered getting rid of my 'Speed, but then I get in her and I really just can't say enough about the feel of the car. It is still super fun to drive. I mean, she is slow as a dog (still totally stock), but it is not about power with the Protege. I have driven my buds Subi STI with loads of power and I still get into my 'Speed and love the way she feels....go figure!

Anyone else wanna chime in?

Put the money into the Mazda to really get her back up to par (3-4k) or put that money plus the trade in value towards a newer, more powerful ride.....this is the question.

This forum rocks....

for me that question was easily answered. i have already had to drop about $2000 into my msp in the past few months just to keep it safe so when the opportunity arose to sell it (for 6k, good mechanical condition needs some bodywork) i jumped on it. definitely will be replacing it with something much more reliable, powerful, fun to drive and way less practical =P. unfortunately until i can save up some more for a down payment then i will be self propelling myself to work everyday.

I did join this forum now that I bought this protege and there is a lot of useful info on here. I have already relocated the maf and going Tuesday to get the ecu reflashed for the stumble.. Next steps are suspension kit from corksport and tuning. Absolutely love this car. Also have a 2012 Volkswagen cc 6spd manual that the fianc drives since I bought this as a toy ;)

I was the same way with my P5, almost got rid of it. Went to the dealer, they said they would give me 1000 for it, I walked out. I am getting a VW GTI in the next 6 months, but I will be keeping my P5 as my beater, bad weather car. The insurance is so cheap why not.
