Traded my MSP last night...

2003 spicy orange MSP
So after almost 10 years and over 96K miles, it was time to trade in DANS MSP for a new set of wheels. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED that car. Besides the 1990 ford explorer I bought for $650 when I was 16, she was my only car.

Problems starting piling up (cracked exhaust manifold, a/c died, dings in windshield, rear bumper damage, fake gray leather peeled of steering wheel, needed a new clutch, needed new shocks/struts) and it was time to get out from under the car. Below is a picture taken last night at 6:22 pm, the last time I saw her.

And now here are the pics of what I traded for:

2012 VW Jetta GLI Autobahn. She's sexy and she knows it...

Nice pick up :) My wife would be all over the car parked a couple spaces down from your speed lol

The A3 S-line was mint, it was sold... had been on the lot for less than 3 days. The buyer actually picked it up while I was cleaning out my trunk.

Yeah, looked like it was an S-line...and in white...she would have been all over it haha

in a similar situation now with my msp. a buddy of mine is getting the money together to buy it off me as we speak. unfortunately ive got my heart set on an s2k which costs about double what my msp is worth, so ill be rideless for the next 6 months while i watch my friend pull up to work in my car =(.

what did they give you for trade-in? The GLI is a nice car, congrats!

Well, its come to it myself...Gonna have to sell my MSP. What is a good asking price for one? Good condition, some mods. Is $8k to much to ask?

Sad to see another MSP in rough shape. I have been trying to find a replacement for my long lost 03.5 and all the ones I have been finding are beat to tar.

I got $3500 for my MSP in its rough shape.

If I had fixed all the issues (close to $4000) I could have gotten maybe $6500 out of her. I have seen very low-mileage MSP's go on AutoTrader.com and Cars.com for close to $8000, but that is probably the upper limit.

Yeah... the outside looks great, and she's still a blast to drive.

But the money just didnt make sense:
-$500 for A/C fix
-$1000 for new exhaust manifold
-$500 for new rear bumper
-$300 for new windshield (would have been the 5th in this car)
-$750 for new shocks/struts, spark plugs, rear brakes
-$500 for new clutch
-$250 for new steering wheel
-$100 for new 02 sensor

Almost $4000 to get her into top form... only to sell it for $6000.

The dealership will do a good job of fixing her up, and someone will get a hell of a car...

meh just someone who cant work on a car dosent deserve a msp! sorry but im glad you traded it in... mybe the next owner will put time and money in to a good car!

Theres no reason for you to comment like a complete tool.

I'm sorry, i love my MSP and all, but its not the holy grail of cars so chastising someone for getting rid of theirs for something newer that doesnt need thousands of dollars in maintenance just makes you sound like a moron.

Many parts of that you can DIY, which significantly cuts down the repair bill. However, I can understand if you're busy or just aren't looking to get that deep into a car. Hope the dealership keeps it alive!

By that flawed logic, your terrible grammar and slippery grasp of the English language = you don't deserve to voice your opinion!

It's okay to be jealous that his daily beater is your dream car :)

lol i can care less buddy... i stick with my protege! and o yea nice civic!

rep stop trolling threads, the protege is an old dying platform and eventually you will realize that as well.

OP good luck with your new car, i was actually looking at the same model last night to replace my car..
