Traded my 08 Mazdaspeed 3 in this past weekend

Yes the K04 is the stock turbo for the MS3. Cool down is highly recommended if you intend to keep your car healthy and running well.

that stinks. I know all subarus and srts as well as many other turbo cars dont require this cool down period. that why you almost never see turbo timers on any of these anymore. Suabru even put it in print that it wasnt necessary to do the cool down period as newer technology has made this possible

that's a pretty nice feature. didn't know they did that. would be cool to have, rather than trying to remember to sit in my car for a minute after driving or just throwing down the money for a TT.

there is also a lot to suggest the cool down is not needed...
the whole cool down/no cool down can be debated...
but not here...

OP
is there auto shifting paddles on the steering wheel or just on the stick?

always had a soft spot for the slowselling crossfire. i drove one when i worked at chrysler and was pretty impressed. never got to drive an SRT6 though. word of warning - replacement parts are not cheap. we had a guy lose his key and it was over $200 to replace it. oil changes through the dealership i worked at were over $100 in parts and labor thanks to the mercedes filter and 0W oil. chrysler didn't even rebadge the stuff - box was OEM mercedes, right down to the part number, and they put makeshift part number decals on quarts of mobil 1 for the oil, lol.

Yeah I heard about the pricey oil changes. Thankfully it calls for 7k changes. I can also save money buying the filters online like I did for the Mazda. In fact I have a dozen Mazda oil filters in my closet- I probably should put them up fs.

It also helps to be a part of an online community (very much like this one). I couldn't imaging owning a car I was planning to mod and NOT be in tune with the community etc. Just this week a guy posted an uncut (switchblade) crossfire key for $20 shipped. Plus I'm buying a second set of wheels for $250! Now if only I could find a bumper cover replacement....bleh

Anyway- yeah I bet a MB tech would be more at home doing work on it than the run of the mill Chrysler guy. That's one of the downsides as this car truly ISN'T Chrysler other than the sheetmetal and badging. Users note that they occasionally have problems getting problems resolved (possibly due to the techs' lack of familiarity and relative low numbers of Crossfires they work on).

The Crossfire wasn't even on my radar till I saw one run a 12.2 at a local track obliterating the modified Corvette in the lane next to it. I did some research and saw how remarkably well they respond to mods coupled with really REALLY bad resale value. Right now is a good time to pick one up- many are coming off lease w/ low milage as we speak. My buddy even picked one up (non SRT version) for 12k w/ 30,000 miles.

There are shops that stock parts and offer custom tuning, even for the n/a Crossfire bringing it up to some really respectful power-levels. I'm looking for a deal on a roadster now.

ahh, not you again

it's ok. glen is loaded.

lol, I was much better off when I was working for the state AND running my full-time business. Now that the business has grown too large to do part-time I had to leave the day-job and pursue my videography full time (ie Salary has been halved).

Btw, do you think your broker can get me out of a GMAC lease?! Call me when you find a moment!

More pics!! (godown)

This isn't mine but it's the same color (Silver Sapphire Blue)

Hi, this is my first post here. I've been lurking for a while as I've long been interested in getting an MS3 but I'm not really in the market for a car right now. Ironically this thread is what made me register as I had never heard of the SRT-6 and I'm kind of blown away by what an awesome value you're getting for your money.

One thing I was wondering is if it's possible to remove the awful chrysler badging from the front? I can't tell if it's part of the hood or the grille, but I haven't been able to find a single pic online where it has been removed.

P.S.
that last pic is not blue.

Hey man- welcome to the forum or rather thanks for un-lurking! Regarding the sheer value- it's incredible. Definitely one of the...if not THE best bang-for-the-buck car out there right now. It's a great time to buy right now, a very soft market and many are coming off leases right now. Regular Crossfires are going for 9-13k wholesale, so they are ending up at dealers for 12-15k with low milage no less. One member even picked up his low milage (4,000) SRT-6 for 17k. It's like a hidden gem- though people are starting to pick up on it. SRT models in particular are selling pretty quick.

Regarding the badging- I'm with you- I never was fond of the Chrysler badging. I don't know the reason why people don't de-badge- maybe the emblem has mounting holes directly into the sheet metal? I've seen some nice alternatives that looks pretty sharp. Here's a replacement center emblem:

PS That color is called Saphire Blue Silver. It's a silver with a bluish (gun/metal) tint to it.
