Should I trade my 03 Pro LX for an 04 Civic SI?

There's a White 04 Civic SI over at the Honda dealership with 15,000 miles on it for 15,995. Already test driven it, and I'm actually growing kinda fond of it. It's stock, and Honda-Certified. I'm upside down on my Protege, and the guy I bought my wifes 05 Civic LX said he could work on it to where i'm no longer negative on the trade. I trust his word because of the deal we got on the POS 01 Focus we traded in a few weeks ago. The seats are more comfortable (the Pro's giving me back problems w/ the stock seats) and my Wife actually likes it. I also miss hatchbacks... I think the rally-style shifter is nice, too.

Should I consider it? or Just leave it alone?

what don't you like about your protege, besides the seats?

I don't like the seats, and the lack of power. I don't like the fact that most of the interior panels rattle. There's that damned clunk, still.

I'm torn, though. most of those things I can handle.. but I miss my old hatchback styling. And like I said, i'm upside down on payments. If he holds true and can balance me back out now that my credit is much better, then i wouldn't complain that much.

that's why I'm trying to see what everyone else thinks.

#1 reason to continue to pay on the loan

IF he holds true (and I'll find out sometime in the next few weeks) to his word, he can eliminate the negative and balance it back out. I'm tired of paying $421 a month for a Protege....

exactly. If i don't do this or something similar, i'm gonna refinance.

ah, I see it now. Cast your votes! I didn't put a poll up for my health ;)

the civic si is a nice car, as far as lack of power dont get your hopes up about the civic. the k20 in the SI is a dog compared to most other K series engines. I dont know what a LX runs stock but the civic is a low 16 second car unless ur a seriously badass driver which u may see high 15's out of it. My friend has an 04 SI with a jackson racing supercharger and my stock msp wears him out all day long. Your insurance will more than likely go up. (civic = hell on insurance). The seats in the si are very nice however im not to sure i like the shifter location. If he can in fact make it your payments better then i would go for it. But like spicy said, only cuz u have an lx.

Yeah, the only real reason is because your paying that kind of money for an LX. The Si is just about as fast as your protege. Plus there are so many nice things for that platform.

I've already driven it, I can tell it's faster than my LX. I figure a good sounding exhaust, intake, and a set of springs and i've got as much as I need. I love the shifter, btw. Don't have to reach down as much, keeps my back straight. And If I get my payments down, insurance going up wont bother me at all.

there's no way buying a more expensive car is the right move, unless you got ***** on the interest rate

if you're upside down, they have to add your negative equity to the new loan, and the only way you'll get a lower payment is if they stretch your loan out for 6 or 7 years, which will just make your problem worse - you'll be upside down most of the life of the loan

the only positive result is that you're getting a honda, which holds its value a little better

I recommend waiting until your loan balance equals what you can get for the car

I'll actually be paying LESS for the SI total...
:wtf: there is no way they're giving you more than 16k for a used 03 protege
