Traction Control/DSC Question

About a year ago I read a post on the differences between turning the DSC off by holding down the DSC button while starting the car vs. pushing the DSC button once the car is running. I can't seem to locate this thread, can anyone either point me to this thread or simply tell me what the differences between the two are.

It works. To temporarily turn off the traction control follow these instructions.

1-With car off hold down DSC Button
2- Turn on Car while still holding DCS Button
3-Hold for about 20 seconds and release the DSC Button.
4-If the DSC light stays on then you have disabled the traction control
The car will reset once the car is turned off

If you turn off the DSC by pressing the button normally, you are turning off the wheel spin control but it will still kick in on hard corners. So the difrence is that if you completly turn off the DSC the car will have no traction aids while if you push the button with the car running the lateral control is still on.

For autocross i turn off the traction control. I'm able to throw the car around more and the car is more predictable.

Does turning the traction control off affect the abs system? Basically does it turn off the abs? I have been pushing the dsc button, after I start my car up, when it snows out so if my tires spin my car will not pulse the brakes. It is so touchy that i can't even feel the tires spin and the brakes pulse. Most of the time it is when I take off from a stop and make a turn. Oh and I also have bridgestone blizzaks on my car so there should be no reason the wheels would be spinning when I take off unless I stomp on it. Once I turn the traction control off I have no problem taking off and don't feel the wheels spin at all.

SCCA_MS3 what happens if you hold the DSC button in for twenty seconds, while starting the car, and then the DSC light goes out. I then try to push the DSC button and it(the button) is completely disabled, nothing happens when I push the button. None of the lights on the dash go on or off. I do believe that something is happening though when I do this as the car seems to handle alot more predictably and drive better. The car also seems to shift better and have better pickup too after I do this. Oh and my car is an Automatic, so that is why I think it affects the shifting. Normally I would have a hard time getting the rpm's above 3000 before the car would shift and keeping them higher inbetween shifts and it will now let me pull them up to atleast 4000 and it keeps them a little higher inbetween shifts.
