TPMS - Can it be disabled somehow?

I'm looking at aftermarket rims, Drag DR-9 red, or the DR-31 White - you can see them on the car here: (http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/interactive.do?yr=2011&pc=22354&vid=018232).

I really don't want to deal with putting the Tire Pressure Monitoring System transmitters into aftermarket rims that weren't made for them. So, I expect I'll see some "idiot light" blinking at me on the dash. Is there any way to disable the TPMS system? I've looked at the fuse block diagram and don't see a dedicated fuse for this "feature", so I'm looking for more creative methods.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

In Canada we don't have the TPMS in the GS (top of the line), eventhough it has it in the manual.

The light will stop blinking after a few seconds and just stay illuminated. I've learned to live with it for now. I would like to know if it's possible to disable it as well.

Not possible to disable the TPMS. What you can do is put your existing sensors in the aftermarket wheels. They fit.

On my RX-8 I took it to Discount Tire every winter to put my winter wheels and tires on, I think they put the TPMS on them because I never had it go off on me.

Anything is possible with the right tool, unless you have the factory software and computer that I use at Mazda, then your S.O.L. Why can't you just swap the TPM sensors over to your new wheels?

So you are saying you can disable the TPMS with the Mazda software and computer? Care to share? :D

I noticed you're in Midland/Odessa. I grew up in Odessa.

Never personally done it, but there is always a way...

Most items can be switched on and off VIA computer, ex., I could make #2 injector shut off, then turn it back on in a click.

NOT here by choice. I'm currently sationed here waiting to go back to Active Duty. Been waiting a while, I miss it so much.

I'm happy working for Mazda in Midland though, I'm moving up extremely quick. Said they could have me fully Mazda certified before the year is over, and I'll be making bank money! lol.

I had the same problem with my light. My sensors wouldn’t fit. But it doesn’t bother me any more. If theres a way to disable it, AWESOME ;-D If not, oh well.

One might think you could remove the instrument cluster, take it apart and remove the light behind the tpms logo if it bothers you that much.

Well I can't tell you how to "repair" it, but it is VERY easy to remove. Just pull the meter hood towards you and dettach the clips behind, and there are two clips to the bottom sides. Fairly simple. I'll post a picture later.

Build a tube from PVC with caps on the ends, place all four sensors inside and tap so you can pressurize. Lots of folks do this with other cars. Many states/counties will fail your inspection if the TPMS light is on.

I just pulled my instrument cluster and used black permanent marker to black out the light and the back of the dash... works great

I baught a set of sensors of e-bay for 140 shipped. They fit my Team Dynamcs wheels perfectly. Did not even require programming. BTW, do not pay anyone to reprogram. Here is the dirt from the Workshop Manual:
Install wheels with new sensors.
Key ON (do not start engine)
After 15-30 seconds Key OFF for 15 minutes.
Get on road, fing highway and keep it above 20 mph for about 20 minutes ((nice cruise).

All done. Free courtesy of Mazda.

If got the base manual trans model and it doesn't have the TPMS. They must only be in the higher end models.?

At first I thought "man, we got jipped again". After about 20 minutes of thought and switching to my winters I let out a large sigh of relief. haha.
