The Speed Trap Exchange was created to alert drivers of speed traps, and to tip off locations where traffic patrols are heaviest. The folks over at Speed Trap compiled a list of the ten worst places in the US in which not to speed based on the input of over 10,000 site users. Lucky for me, my hometown of the Detroit Suburbs took the number one spot. Hit the jump to view all top 10 sites, and let us know if you know of an area where speed traps run ramped.

Top 10 US sites with speed traps (from speedtrap.org)
1. Detroit, Mich. suburbs
2. Colorado Springs, Colo.
3. Houston, Texas
4. Orlando, Fla.
5. Nashville, Tenn.
6. Ann Arbor, Mich.
7. Albuquerque, N.M.
8. Washington, D.C.
9. Denver, Colo.
10. Virginia Beach, Va.

Haha, I knew it! Fortunately I know most of the traps and haven't been busted yet (knock on wood!), although I don't speed too badly. It must be all the sailors from Norfolk that get busted. This is too funny though; way to put my home town on the map!

hey magnum,

i just took a bmx road trip out to virginia beach with a few buddies. to rid some skateparks. def. a fun time. nice ass weather too. norfolk is a cool little city.

and most important of all. wawa selling beer.lol my jaw dropped when i walked into one. VA beach ftw.

LOL at Wawa (but true!). Norfolk is cool in the right places. I feel damn-well like a scared little white boy in some parts though. It's funny though, I've lived in Virginia Beach most of my life but my only speeding ticket was out in Sussex Co. and not in the #10 worst city for speed traps.

I haven't been pulled over yet, but two of my friends got speeding tickets last week.

Montreal is tough too. A lot of highways in the city limits are 70km/h. It is very easy to go 110km/h and get caught.

you are fooling yourself if you think Texas is a good place to speed.

you're just mad that there are 2 colorado's on the list.

honestly, though, texas can be rough. I-35 is just a massive speed trap.

and, the cops down here that i've dealt with were nice enough guys.

Man, the midwest is tough.
probably because there isn't s*** else do to there.

*edit*
I wonder if DC is also including the surrounding metro area. Fairfax and Montgomery counties are the pits. You can't really drive 3-5 miles without seeing at least 2 police cruisers.

I can totally attest to the #1 spot. Detroit doesn't give a s*** about what you do on the roads, they've got bigger problems to face. The suburbs are filled with crooked cops that want nothing more than to pop you for 5 over. They should be focusing on DUIs, running red lights, and the more pressing issues, not the fact that I'm gassing it to pass grandma in the center lane.

How the hell does one speed in a congested city?
I work in DC, one of the most congested cities in the US and the #1 congested metropolitan area. Trust me when I say, idiots always find a way. Its so stupid to see drivers try speed to like 60mph, to beat the yellow, only to get caught by the next sequential like that is literally 50 feet away. I shake my head is disbelief. Then they get stuck, because the car in front of them is turning.

I damn sure didn't do any speeding when I made my 9 mile (52 minute) drive to work every morning when I was in Northern VA!!!

no joke...i've only been pulled over once (was still on my permit, and honestly, I deserved to be pulled over for how fast i was going...) but my little brother has been pulled over 4 times in the last two years, twice for only going 3-5 mph over the speed limit!!
