TomTom still bad?

I wrote to Mazda UK and asked them what they plan to do with all the TomTom issues, especially those regarding Live Services, this was the reply (took 2 weeks to get it!)...
Thank you for your email.

We will remain to keep our customers and Mazda dealerships aware of updates to the situation and would like to reassure you we are working as quickly as possible for a resolution.

If you need any further assistance please feel free to call me on 08457 48 48 48. We are here between 8.00am to 6.00PM Monday to Friday.

anyone aware that theres android version of navigation made available on CX5. anyone used em yet ? my local mazda emailed me a 20% coupon off all accessories. was thinkin about pickin up Navigation, but now having 2nd thoughts after readin all these TT issues.

After living with various Garmin GPS units for quite a few years, and having 2 now - one in motorhome and one on Can Am Spyder - I'm finding this TT a real disappointment. Just found a Garmin 2455 on Costco (same unit as I have on the Spyder) is on sale for $130. I'm tempted to get it and use a dash mount and just ignore the TT. Anyone gone this route yet?? Thanks.

I just took my first trip with the TT. What a disaster. I updated the map before I left. On multiple occurrences it would randomly tell me to turn into cliff faces or over the side of the road into the water. It told me to drive down roads that were not there. It showed me driving in the forest. It is at least 150 feet off in location at all times. It sometime shows me flying above and to the right or left of the road. It does draw a line to connect me to a spot on the road that moves in my general direction. The distance to go appeared to work but the time calculation was off by about an hour.
And then there is the voice commands. Totally horrible experience and worthless. My 5- 6 year old Garmin is way more sophisticated and user friendly then this garbage. Mazda should be embarrassed and ashamed of what they have done. Otherwise, I like the car.

Google maps, smart phone. Gives you traffic, construction warnings. And you don't have to buy anything!

I wouldn't say it's a disaster of a system, but it is flawed. Mostly because it is outdated.

Mazda is well aware of the situation for these TomTom units. Hence the reason they are abandoning the system within two years and have already turned to Aha by Harmon for infotainment starting with the 2014 Mazda3 and will eventually trickle down to all their other cars. So don't expect any significant fixes for our current TomTom units.

I use a navigon app on my iphone mounted to the windshield. This is convenient for accessing music too.

Google maps is a good free option, but not functional if you leave areas where there is a good data signal as it does not put maps on the phone. The Navigon also lets you add multiple addresses for extended trips and lets you download maps only for the regions you frequently travel.

What option is this? I use google maps on my phone for navigation, and works decently well, but if I want to listen to FM radio then I can't hear the directions anymore. Also a bit of a pain to take out my phone, get out my mount and set it up every time since I don't like leaving the mount exposed when not in my car. Seems like adding on the OEM TT is not a good idea though.
