To reuhpolster OR to cover......that is the question!

So here I go again. My 97 Miata has some very tired cloth uhpolsetery(Original) and it is getting worse by the day. Who among you has re-done their seats and by what methods have you chosen. Please don't be ashamed or shy, just lay it all out there so I can make a semi-knowledgable decision on what path to take. For a little historical data, my car has over 174K miles on the clock but I have been re-doing stuff to it as needed. First came the engine replacement after a heater hose went by-by and the wife told me it was making a "funny sound". When asked if she had seen the temp. meter showing it was hot she replied "what temp meter"! Got a good used motor installed about 7500 miles ago and she ( the car) runs like a champ. Replaced the windshield last weekend and replaced the sound system last holiday season. Rims/tires are OK and brakes & clutch are both good. Now the interior needs help. I did purchase some seat covers from GoMiata.com but they were awful. Every time you sat down and twisted into the seat the cover would move along with your butt and pull loose the straps holding it into place. I returned them but GoMiata was not very understanding about my issue with them and took way too long to reimburse my funds, less a 20% re-stocking fee! I shall not have my shadow cross their door again. Learned a very valuable lesson from them. Cheap can mean many things! Anywho, let me know of how you have solved this issue. Your input is very valuable to me and my little old "mid-life crisis" Miata.

It all depends on the condition of the foam under your seat cover. If the foam is in good condition you can get some Katzkin leather seat covers and replace your stock worn out covers with leather. Check out the link in my signature i did Katzkin leather in both my cars.

Hey JReichele1, I went to their website and almost fell off my chair when I saw their prices for what I need! I am a much more conservative and budget-minded fellow, so I will keep searching for a less expensive way to go. Their product line does look far superior than most!

Check eBay and you might get lucky...

Every once in a while I get lucky! Post some pictures when you get them installed. (2thumbs)

Hey WillD, the new uhpolstery found its' way to my doorstep just before I left for a ride to the Moab V ride. After almost two thousand miles of great driving and beautiful sites, I will be attempting this project in the morning. If I find that the project is too complicated or requires special tools, I will take the seats to my local uhpolstery man to finish to task. Thanks again for the great tip. They only put me back $165 and that ain't bad!

Happy I could help! I really hope they do the trick for you.

Just an update on my seat uhpolstering project.............nothing yet do to my inability to find someone who can do this project without wanting an arm & a leg for the task! In this economy one would believe that getting work would be paramount in a small businesman goal but not so far with this work. I have received quotes as high as $750 to do the work down to $350.00! I paid about $180.00 for this costumn kit but I am not comfortable in attacking this on my own. Chicken, yes I am from past experiences where I DID start a project only to get stuck somewhere in the process and needing to take to a pro. Still hoping to get this done at a reasonable cost ($200 Tops) someday soon.
