Tires???

Romel, first off, try editing your posts so that you don't have 30 posts responding to yourself or at least respond to more than one post each time.
Now, for the tire situation, your tires will obviously last longer on the back, but if you have "lines" showing through, they have got to be changed for your safety, your passengers, and anybody else you're sharing the road with.
Forget buying tires from the dealer. try tires.com or tirerack.com, and get any 2 tires in 215-45-17. it won't be cheap, but it will be cheaper than the dealer. If you have 2 that are burnt, then the other 2 should still have plenty of life in them.
In the future, rotate every 5,ooo miles, or every oil change, it's not hard.

Okay, well first of all - don't let Firestone TOUCH your tires. You'd be much better off going to another local tire place, like Evans Tire or Discount Tire, and picking out some better tires with higher treadlife characteristics. Look for prices of the tires online, then take that price to either of the aforementioned stores and they'll usually match it - Discount Tire matched the online price at Tirerack for me last time I got tires for my CRX.

If you do have cord showing on your tires (you should put up some pics if you can) then you really should get them switched out sooner rather than later - but you should be able to get tires for your MSP for about $110 each for decent tires (Yokohama AVS-ES 100, Falken FK-451, just for a few suggestions) - which would leave you at about $250 for the two tires to be mounted, balanced, etc.

Just trying to help a guy save some $$$!!

I just rotated mine at 6100 miles...kinda 1000 too late.

17K tire rotation? LOL You better have tire for life program! Im pissed off that the local delaer didnt throw that in...all other MSP from my delaer had them. now im regretting it!

Hey TampaBlackMSP...What dealer is this...it might be worth the drive from orlando just to find a cool dealer.

Ditto the above, check tirerack.com or tires.com and the tires.com site is just the "e" outlet for DIscount Tire - if there's one local to you they're pretty good.

Just about ANYTHING with tread will be better than cords-showing tires, and they're illegal so that officer following you can pull you if he sees the cords showing...

Take it REAL easy on 'em and they should last a few hundred more miles, but I wouldn't push it - would have to see pics to know for sure.

Are you talking about a "weave" showing through, or is this the normal mold line or an ink line (usually yellow or orange)? If it's the weave, then it's the cords as we've suspected. If it's a mold part line or ink line it may be nothing, just check your treat depth. Again, tirerack.com can help.

yeah, 17k is way too long. I rotate my tires every 500-1000 miles (free at work!!!!) and im still probably only going to get 12-15k out of them. RE040's only have a treadwear of 140, which is very low, almost drag radial low. A guy w/ a Rx-8 with the same tires on it only had 10,000 miles on them and he came in for a tire rotation. The two rears were slicks!!!!. $500 dollars later he leanered his lesson. Just be happy msp's dont come with 18's :)

Nevertheless, you are taking a serious chance with your life here.... if you hit a wet area with no treads on the rear you will more than likely spin out.... not to mention tire explosion...

OMG! Of course you have a problem...you are supposed to rotate them every 5k miles. From what I've heard, these tires can sometimes only last 20k miles because they're aggressive summer tires & the tread rating is like 140. If you go really easy on them, they might last another month...if the wire is showing, then I wouldn't chance it.
20K is pretty good for 140 tread wear. I am at around 30k now with the original set and they will need to changed in a couple months. I rotated every 10k or so on mine. I drive just over a 100 miles a day during the week. My tread is still at about 20-30% but it has mostly been highway miles driving at 60 in a straight line.
I wanted some more 140 tread wear tires but the lowest I could find in a brand I wanted was around 220.

there is no telling how long they will last, but if you have steel showing it is a danger to you and the others on the road. if you can't afford new tires yet. goto a used tire store get a $20 used tire put on that rim, make sure it's on the back and save for your new tires

Just be careful wear your driving and how hard your driving. If you feel that the tires are gonna come apart its actually safer having them in the front. Its actually easier to loose control of a car if the a rear tire blows versus the front, especially on the freeway.

I agree. Get one used tire and save up for two new ones. A lot of people have already mentioned the safety factor and that could be terrible. But if you don't think that will happen to you, fine. But if you do have a blow out and nobody gets hurt, think about how much a new rim will cost you (uhm) Not cheap I imagine.

yo, why don't u just put your donut tire on untill you have a chance to buy 2 new tires or get a chance to buy a used tire until you have enough cash to but your new tires.

Give him SOME credit dexter, im sure they'll last at least 72.9 seconds as long as he swerves alot and tries not to hit a pothole.
Also, floor it every where you go. When you dont have traction, you arent wearing the tires since theyre actually spinning above the ground.

Shop tirerack.com, you can get 4 good performance tires for under $400. Local install is cheap. Why pay Firestone $320 for 2?

I'm glad I saw this thread's comments on the wear rate of the RE040's. I Rotated my front's @ 7K and was shocked to see them around 40% tread remaining. I drive pretty hard, but I didn't think it should have been that bad. After I wear down the new fronts, then swap 'em back, then swap back and forth one more time, i'll probably be around 20-22k for the set, which sounds like its not too abnormal.

Not too mention the fact that I currently have the P5 Wheels and Dunlops on right now, for the winter (grumble grumble stupid me driving in 1/2 inch of snow on the RE040s).
