I need to get new tires and I was looking to get 215/45/17's however the guy told me that there is no way that they would fit on my MP3. Told me that they would run the wheel well in the front and the strut in the back. Any suggestions or comments? Thanks Corey

well, the speed has 215's. Same wheel wells, at least as far as I know.

Get a hold of Rishie. ARD P5 I think is his handle. HE's tried lots of tires, sells them.

Whoever told you this is full of s***. Make sure the dumbass didn't put in 'MPV' in the computer. After telling the fool 4 times I was in a Protege MP3 he insisted I drove a minivan. People are really stupid, and you need to smack them around every now and then to clear the crap out of their heads.
I have been running 215/45/17s since february with ZERO problems. No rubbing, not even when loaded down. Get them and be happy.
Discount tire will price match Tirerack.com if you ask, and I got the Kuhmo 711s for $62/each. Great deal, and you might as well get the tire guarantee with it.

Good luck.

Well he brought the tire out sat in next to my car and said there is no way that these are going to fit. I just went onto dscount tire and they dont have them it looks like. They just have 215/40/17's.

Good point:

how many god damn times have I had to explain to some dumbass mechanic that I drive a MP3 and not a f'n MPV. I remember when I first got the MP3, and I was hunting for winter tires. I'd go in and ask for a 15's or 14's, and of course, most mechanics will ask what size are your stock tires, and when I told them 17's and they were stock they would basically call me a liar. No way, 17's stock? Must be a minivan, you mean MP3 right, I don't believe you.....you need 17" winter tires then ( yeah right!), I heard it all.

Why 17's on a protege is strange, but 17's on a minivan is not???? wtf?

Anyways, I don't "ask" the mechanics and sales people no more, I give up. I walk in, tell them what I want, don't give them any room to "suggest" any of their dumbass opinions, and I walk out with what I want, or I walk to another store. Honestly, %90 of people in sales don't have a f'n clue about what their selling. People like Rishie are hard to find. Someone who sells something they love ,and knows what their doing.

I research from people that have already done it over the internet, and I order it myself if possible. Simple as that. I love the internet. It cuts out the dumb assed salesperson in the middle.

Good Point Newf,

Dont you just fell that sometimes you know more about something then a trained professional? Like you may not have the equipment or time or resources, but you know what you are doing. You are way more careful and patient with the process to find the best and do the best for your ride. I hate when I hear stories about stupid mechanics that dont care about others things. They will scratch up things with their tools or get friggen grease on your interior, things like that. I would much rather verify that what is being done on my car is the correct and best method.

215/45/17 will fit just fine. About a month ago I had some sumitomo 215/45/17 HTR+ put on and no problems at all even with 4 people in the car. The tires look great lots of meat for the twisties!

Hey thanks to all. I appreciate all of your input. I just ordered them. Do they make the car look lower? looks like they would fill the wheel well gap.

Corey

They do fill it out a little better, but don't make it look lower. Actually, they make the car a tiny bit taller as they have taller sidewalls, but you won't notice it.
You'll like them, and they'll protect the wheels a little better, but just slightly.

I wonder if 215/45/17 will fit on the MP3 with SPOOL springs? Or would 215/40/17 be better. I once mentioned 215/40/17 to ARD MP5 and he said they should be fine with the SPOOL springs and the MP3 stock wheels, but I really wanted to know if 215/45/17 would fit since its a closer match on the speedometer.

The very first day I drove my mazdaspeed, the "head tech" at the dealership told me that when I rev it up and shift, I will hear a funny noise, but don't worry, that's just my wastegate.

I made no comment to him.

I have 17" rims with 215/45 and Ground Control Springs. The car is dropped to where the fender well to tire gap is 1/2 inch. I had to roll the rear fender lip because of rubbing, but once they were rolled, I now have no issues.
