2002 protege es
so i just bought a 02 protege es today, and it needs new tires...im sure u all know that the size is fairly mazda specific as when i call tire shops and mention the size, they usually say "mazda, eh?"

as much as i would love to drive it like a sports car and put the expensive z rated tires on it, i do not want to spend that kind of money just to have them wear out after 30 or 40 000 kms...

have found 2 tire places that have h rated tires in the size(195/50/16) that will supposedly get better life...

the choices at present are

toyo proxie tpt or falkens (cant remember model)

anyone on here familiar with the 2 brands and share some insight as to which would be the better one to go with?

any other advice for a particular tire to look for in that size that will give me some longer life?

thanks for your input

man you can fit a 205/55/16 on our wheels! if you would bump up to this tire size there are a cupple more options available. Other tires to look into would be the BF Goodwrench gforces and Kumho ecstas

Any chance these would fit?

I had Kumho's, nice but the tread life wasn't that great (<2 years)
right now I have Falken's. They're nice, we'll see how the tread life is

With pretty mild driving, I got about 25,000miles out of both the Falken Ziex ZE-912 and ZE-512. The Falken's are known to have a relatively poor tread life.

Consider 205/45R16, also (Miata size). The selection is far more extensive with that size and the difference in odometer is 1.7%. With 215/45R16 it's only 0.2%.
