Tire Sizes for Stock Wheels?

Who are these crazies I need a dialogue with them. I have become very fond of the oem wheels (appearance, not the weight) but 235s/ 18 are what I will run. And i don't believe the tire will fit. Somebody prove me wrong please. For some reason initially*, I thought the Mazda wheel was 7.5 and all was well. boo

I guess I must be one of the crazies since I have 235/40R18 Dunlop Winter Sport 3D on my M6 Grand Sport OEM 18x7's. Ran them hard from Minneapolis to Seattle in December; lots of snow, mountains and high speeds; car and me are back home in AK. The combination looks very aggressive, no rubbing or sidewall bulge noted; handles like its on rails. Call me CraZy!

a 235 on a 7" wheel is pointless. all you get is a big bulge. you will have a half inch of your tread section rolling over and becoming part of your sidewall. why pay for a wider tire that isnt going to make any more contact with the road ?? also a 235/40 is a shorter tire than stock. so in the end you get no more road contact area than stock and it is shorter = WORSE THAN STOCK !! 225/45/18 is the way to go on stock rims. hell i have 7.5" rims and that is still what i went with. they wont roll over like a 235 will and they are taller than stock = better than stock !

Thats cool that you could run, that short of a tire(sidewall) in winter what tire pressure ? and thanks crzd. oh yes I hope you left dsc engaged.ha

on an 8" rim 245's would be fine, but i dont think with a +50 offset. stock is like +52.5 . if you want to run a wider rime AND a wider tire you need to lower that offset to about +43 IMO. i have 225's on a 7.5" rim and i went with a +45 offset. i wanted an overall better package. sure wide tires on big rims will stick good, but the added weight and contact area will actually reduce your performance, not to mention kill your MPG. a not too wide but taller tire actually adds grip AND gives BETTER MPG ! in the end i got taller, wider tires, on wider rims that overall weigh less than stock and will provide more grip and better MPG. but some are looking for pure grip and size, not me. i drive the car every day i want good MPG too. besides i have slicks for when i need the grip !

I have question.. if I were to get 17x7 wheel +40 offset would 235 40ZR 17's work on the rims? Any rubbing or anthing like that? If it give me more handling then great, but Im just looking for a good set of tires. I found a really good set of rims and tires and need to know if that would work. For a 08 Speed3 in case you were curious. Oh and I will also be lowered on Eibach Sportlines too in case that is a problem. Thanks in advance.

they would fit but they would stick out of the fender a lot with that offset. they may rub on hard turns.
