Tire questions, rim size, tire size, tire manuf.

Ok.
I have 245/50/20 Pirelli Scorpion Tires on an AWD, not impressed with them in the snow at all. They are ok in dry and wet. I realize from the search that most like the Yokohama Parada. I am willing to try these because although I live in Phoenix, I frequent Flagstaff and Colorado. So I need something that will handle snow very well.

Now my other question is what is the 20" OEM wheel tire width? 7.5 or 8.0,8.5?? I have not had a chance to pull the wheel to check the width. I want to go slightly wider. 275/45/20 would do just fine but I need to know if it will fit. 8.5 is recommended width for a 275 but I know I can fit it on an 8.0" rim.

I did search but did not find any conclusive results.

Anyone running this size and please let me know 20" wheel width.

Thanks for the help.

edit, found they are 7.5, so 255 would probably be max...

Say goodbye to any chance of halfway decent gas mileage.

Being that you live in Phoenix, just go with oem size and get the Parada's, that should be good enough, especially since you have awd.

Wider tires are bad for on-snow performance.
Not to mention, worse MPG. What you get is better look (debatable to some),
and better roadholding g at turns. Tons of negatives.
Automakers try hard to find a trade-off for their vehicles.
For example, going from 235 to 255 might have cost CX9 1mpg on EPA ratings.
I think earlier Honda Pilots have 235 tires.

The tread width of 255/50/20 Paradas is the same as of 245/50/20 OEM Duelers. The section width difference is only 0.2" and Paradas weight only 1 lb. more. So, there should not be much difference in MPG.

I agree that wider is worse on MPG and not good for snow but from 245 to 255 should not make too much of a difference in MPG nor snow travel. Heck VW TOUAREG uses 275 size tires.
I was just looking for a bit wider. But I will probably stick to OEM size cause I always do anyway with everything. I tend not to mess with what the engineers have come up with.
I really wanted more choice in tires like Continental ExtremeContact DWS, thats the tire I really want. Although I live in PHX I go to Flagstaff where we have another house and it snows there a ton. Plus we have family in CO which we frequent. The Scorpions now being worn a bit more are sliding all over in the snow.
Anyways, going to 255 would not cause much difference as I checked manuf. sites on widths and so forth and really not a big difference. Just want to find the right tire for going in snow to dry to heavy wet when it rains (if it does) in Phx. I take it everywhere so I need a versatile tire. I also want to look into the Yokohama YK580. Anyone use these?

I was thinking about 275 when I said the 1mpg increase.
Sorry for the confusion.
I agree that 245->255 should not have big impact.
