So I recently bought a set of RX-7 FD rims (16x8 +50) for my Mazdaspeed 3 because I need a set of rims for all season tires for the winter and I was wondering what size tires I should use? I was looking at 245/50 but I don't know if that would be the right choice.
PLEASE HELP ME, I've posted in 3 other forums and not even one response :[

oh and one more thing...do I need spacers or anything else for fitment?

Rule #1 on buying snow tires: Do not buy tires that are wider then the stock tires. So for the MS3, don't buy anything wider than a 215.

The FD rims are 8" wide but you should be able to mount 215's on them.

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revolutions Speedometer Odometer Difference
215/45-18 3.8" 12.8" 25.6" 80.5" 787/mi 60MPH 10000mi N/A
215/60-16 5.1" 13.1" 26.2" 82.2" 771/mi 59MPH 9794mi 2.1%
215/55-16 4.7" 12.7" 25.3" 79.5" 797/mi 61MPH 10121mi -1.2%
225/60-16 5.3" 13.3" 26.6" 83.7" 757/mi 58MPH 9620mi 3.9%
225/55-16 4.9" 12.9" 25.7" 80.9" 783/mi 60MPH 9951mi 0.5%
245/50-16 4.8" 12.8" 25.6" 80.6" 786/mi 60MPH 9989mi 0.1%

Where are you located? I also picked up a set of FD rims for the winter when going to Reno or Tahoe from Norcal. It's getting cold here and I plan on using 225/55/16s. It stays close to the original diameter. If you're just looking for all seasons and the winter isn't too bad, I think 225s would be okay. If you're somewhere where it snows hard and it's really cold, then I'd probably trade the 16s for a 17x7 rim and go 205s. Good luck.

I live in northern VA so the winters aren't too bad but there are some crazy backroads that I have to drive on the daily. Not to mention I make a round trip of lke 85 miles to school and back.

So is there any advantage of running some of those tires becasue I don't mind the look of a fat tire and I do plan to get lowered around Christmas on H&R springs

Where in NOVA are you? I would say your safe to stick with 225/50/16's without any rubbing issues and they will fit on 8.0's no problem. it has nothing to do with looking "fat" it has to do with "cutting" thorough the snow instead of pawing it. stock size or narrower will be easier to get through the white stuff.

245/50s your asking for problems. 50mm os or not.
