Tinted tails - pics!

hey I am working with BlueBatMobile to get him to make a set of 'smoked' overlays for the tails. he was thinking of smoking the whole tail and I was thinking of doing just the red, leaving the white circles only. I'm p-chopping the pics right now and going to do a poll hopefully later tonite after work. don't want to threadjack so I'll leave now but, again, very fine work phish

lookin good. i did the same thing with my sedan tails right before i got wrecked and loved it. i like that look much better than altezzas.

oh, did yours come out really dull? i had to put on 3 clear coats and buff them a while to make em shiny again.

Thanks! Hell man, if there were overlays available for this I sure as hell would have gone that route. It wasn't an altogether difficult procedure and only took a couple hours due to drying time but it's the nervousness of messing it up that gets ya. (boom06) W/the overlays you're pretty much straight if it doesn't come out like you want, just take it off. I'm just really glad they turned out alright. *whew*

very nice, in the middle of my darkened convsersion now, have my edm headlight conversion, gonna smoke the celica sides and my tails slightly and maybe get those piaa headlights that are black when off...mmmmmmm

Excellent Job phish. Props to you and your husband on a job well done. Look much like what I did keeping the circles clear. I like the idea of keeping the brake light that lights up clear too.

I'll help ya out.

Uninstall tails
Clean tails
tape off parts you dont want painted
paint
let dry
put the tails back in.


Ive done niteshades on at least 10 vehicles...its no different than normal painting other than it is EXTREMELY thin and like to either run or spit out of the nozzle.

I thought those were Hella lights $225 shipped was the cheapest I found them awhile ago

edit: to answer the question about inside vs. outside; you prep the outside and tape it off and paint the outside, last I heard, few people have ever successfully popped open the taiils for paint...

If I were to tint mine i would do the entire thing including the turn sigs, and reverse though...

Wow! Thanks you guys for the compliments! I would be glad to help anyone who wants to do this at the tint day. The reason why I kept the red and clears untouched is b/c of the po po - I didn't want to deal w/being pulled over for bulls***. Fortunately it turned out pretty damn good! (2thumbs) We may buff it to make it a bit more shiny but right now I'm all shaky about touching it b/c I don't want to mess it up. (boom05)

I knew the reason you left the top unpainted was because of the pigs, but technically they're still illegal cuz you painted over the side reflector...

the best thing to do is get a second set of tail lights. If you get pulled over, you just change the tails, take the RO(in MD you just get a repair order, no fine) and have a shop sign it, then switch em back...

Not too hard, I used to do it with my old car, only got pulled over once in 2 years for it, and they were a HELLUVA lot darker than that(more like black)

Yeah well at least this way they're a little less illegal. I was eventually going to get the JDMs but now I really like the look of these. When the day comes when I get an RO then I'll get a new set.

Niteshades by VHT. I got it from my local speed shop, $8 but I had to have them order it then I just picked it up. I used it for my side markers as well.
