Just wanted to share that I swapped out the factory round foglights for the Morimoto XB LED Fog Lights on my 2015 CX-5 GT AWD. I bought them directly from Morimoto's website and they came in about a week. The fit wasn't exactly plug in play, but it was still easy to do.

  1. Pull onto ramps for easy clearance (but if stock suspension, can do this without ramps)
  2. remove a handful of 8mm and 10mm bolts from the little side splash guards beneath each foglight
  3. Unplug the wire connector from the factory light and if there's a harness clip holding it to the fog bracket, yank that out with the plastic clip removal tool.
  4. From each foglight, remove (3) similar small phillips screws holding the fog bracket to the bezel. Foglight is attached to this bracket but both light and bracket need to come out. On the side with the washer fluid jug, you'll want a low-profile screwdriver ratchet. For the others, a stubby #2 phillips driver is fine.
  5. Take fog/bracket assembly to work bench
  6. Remove the 10mm leveling bolt and the small phillips screw holding each light to its bracket
  7. Using a dremel style tool and cutoff wheel, begin removing material around the inner edges of each bracket to let the LED fog install cleanly. You'll also want to remove the 'tabs' in each leveling slot that prevent the leveling screw from actually sliding fore/aft. I used a burr type bit on my dremel for that. Once you've opened up the hole enough, test-fit the LED pod with the leveling screw in and make sure it moves cleanly through its range - you'll want to aim these once installed.
  8. Install fogs into brackets and use leveling screw and small phillips screw.
  9. Figure out which pin matches with which wire harness slot from car (LEDs must have polarity correct or they won't light). I did this by pushing the wired pins into the included H11 connector and plugging it into the factory harness, then turning on the lights w/ fogs. If they don't light up, they are backwards. If they do light up, good to go. To pull each pin out, there's a tiny tab inside the back of the plug you can lever out with a small precision flathead screwdriver while gently tugging out the wire.
  10. With correct wiring on the plug, install the fog brackets with fogs into the back of the bezel. There's a 'post' near the upper screw hole that slots into a hole on the bracket to help you line it up. Get those in then the three screws that hold it.
  11. Leave the lower splash guards mostly loose (maybe one screw in to keep them from dragging) until you can work on aim. I will say that I ended up with mine about 3/4 of their max height aim. The cutoff on these is so sharp that you won't be blinding oncoming cars at all unless you really shoot for the sky with the aim.
  12. Once dark, use masking tape and some small sheets of cardboard or plastic to cover the main headlights and then get the aim on each foglight equal. You can reach into the space behind each fog through the open splash guards and then using the 10mm or a screwdriver to loosen the 10mm bolt facing down from each bracket and tugging the light appropriately. Get the equal, snug the bolt a but, then go drive.
  13. For optimal aim, remember you do NOT want them just making the foreground super bright. That will cause your eyes to think the scene is much brighter than it is and cause your pupils to retract, meaning you now see worse than before at a distance. Read more about this here. Try to get them up enough that they evenly blend with your main headlights while you drive around on test drives, making just small adjustments to get both equally up or down as needed.
  14. Once satisfied with the aim, replace all the bolts for the splash guards, including the little one hidden behind the center splash guard that the two 10mm bolts let you get to.

Tools Needed:
  • #2 Phillips Stubby Screwdriver
  • #2 Phillips Low Profile driver (you might be able to do this with just a #2 phillips driver bit by hand if your fingers are tough enough)
  • plastic clip removal tool
  • 8mm 1/4 drive socket
  • 10mm 1/4 drive socket
  • 1/4 drive ratchet and extension OR 1/4 drive socket driver handle
  • Dremel or similar rotary tool with cutoff wheel and burr style bits
  • masking tape
  • 1ft squares of fabric, cardboard, or plastic to cover main headlights during aiming adjustments
Morimoto says these XB LED pods are compatible with several Mazdas that have the roundish fog lights:
  • Mazda RX-8 : 2004-2008
  • Mazda MX-5 : 2006-2015
  • Mazda MPV : 2004-2006
  • Mazda CX-9 : 2013
  • Mazda CX-7 : 2007-2009
  • Mazda CX-5 : 2013-2015
  • Mazda MAZDASPEED6 : 2006-2007
  • Mazda 6 : 2006-2008, 2011-2018
  • Mazda 5 : 2006-2010
  • Mazda 3 : 2004-2015 (w/ round fogs)
